Perhaps it's unlikely that he'll perform on that level, but that's precisely why we can get him on a £5 million loan instead of a £50+ million transfer. If we have nothing better lined up it's a risk I would take. If it doesn't work out it doesn't work out. What's the big issue, flushing a few million down the toilet?
Well, I hate to invoke the notion of 'killing' young players, but much like Willian he does kind of get in the way of developing players like Nelson, ESR, even Saka, etc. If most of them are going out on loan then I guess it makes sense, he holds the fort while they either get good or get sold for decent money.
It just seems like a short term solution that doesn't map to our long term problems. More of a Hail Mary than a life of piety.
