The club probably looks at Thiago over Aouar for cash-flow reasons even if Aouar is the better long-term decision. These last 4 years without Champions League football have done a number on us.

I have barely watch Aouar but Thiago and him perform very different roles in the midfield, don't they? That said, we need a capable body for both roles. Love Thiago. Worried about his injury proneness though.

Being injury prone is a legitimate worry though - if we swap Ozil for Thiago and he's injury prone then we're lumbered with another white elephant.

He's an amazing player but we can't afford any more liabilities on huge wages.

Nobody is saying he isn't a great player (though I definitely think there's some hyperbole involved). What they are saying is he isn't so great that you disregard his injury record, fee and age and sign him regardless. And as far as I can tell we are all mostly on the same page on that front so this is all a little pointless.

The cost-effective approach is to take Thiago deep and push Ceballos up. That's what I suspect the team will try to do. This is what it could look like
Thiago fee £20m + 4years at 150k
Ceballos £10m loan + £20m transfer fee + 4years at 100k

You'd only need to pay about £40m total this year for the two of them. Much less than the £50m just to release Partey. That's attractive corona cash-flow. I'd prefer anything with Aouar but these are strange times

Hope we sort something out soon as seeing Elneny start today was a little disconcerting and unfortunately emblematic of the state of our midfield at the moment.

Sure, it would be good to get players in before 12/9 but this is going to be one long ass transfer window for various reasons.

Patience is needed I am afraid.

The problem you have is ITK's trying to out-do one another with 'breaking news' and stories that it makes the market seem a lot more fluid and inflates the pace of reality. For example, look how long Gabriel is taking and compare that to the pace of these ITK's comms.

My rule of thumb is whenever an ITK gives an 'exclusive' add another 3 weeks to it before it actually becomes reality. Obviously you will have exceptions like Luiz last year but look how long Pepe and Tierney took ffs.

Lets stay calm, transfers will come. Dont go by the speed of these cunts on twitter.
