Nobody wants James. Real should just man up and keep paying their flop. If Arteta cannot play Ozil, where is he going to fit guys like James and Coutinho who keep getting linked with us?

Me neither. James is one of my favourite players of this decade but the circumstances are wrong and the risk is too high. I'd rather him than Coutinho though.

There was such a sharp decline in his reliability the moment Gazidis left. For years the club used Ornstein as a mouthpiece. He wasn't a journalist a smuch as a walking press release. Then the first transfer window after Egghead left comes along and Ornstein ends up looking like a right clown. His sources about Carrasco, Nkunku and Perisic were no better than your average twitter ITK. Bloke went from being as reliable as the official website to being as irrelevant as John Cross. Easy with the benefit of hindsight to see where he got his information from.

It was always obvious where his source was coming from because he was critical of both Wenger and Kroenke but never Gaizidis.

Is he good? Having four seasons as a Ligue 1 starter is very solid for a 21-year-old.

He can play CB / LB so it suggests he'd be more natural in the back3 than Kola.
As well as being a free agent he'd cost less in terms of wages, so we could sell Kola to raise revenues towards the key signings - particularly if we are to lose the likes of PEA and/or Laca.

I wonder if it’s possible to save our money and just promise Upamecano a £20m signing bonus if he comes in a year. Wonder how hot that market would be by December. I really want us to get a great central defender and it would be worth waiting to sign this guy in December if there is an opening.

Definitely worth a gamble. Was on the U21 squad with Konate and Upamecano. He's also been playing a while and quite experienced. Quick and mobile. Very strong. He's definitely not the standout player from that U21 and U20 group. I think his passing and height are potentially drawbacks. He's a 4 inches shorter than our Saliba.

But he could already come in next season and start left of Luiz with Saliba to the right for a nice combination of speed, strength and height.

A Saliba - Sarr paring in 1 or 2 years times could be solid. We've got Luiz and Mari to bridge the gap and make up a back three, I guess. I like the left foot. What's the deal with Pau Torres? He any good?
