From Auoar to Ozil, Partey to Chambers – what business will Arsenal get done before the deadlines?

Looks at our non-HG numbers and how we can still sign both Aouar and Partety as well as moving players out including Ozil.

It’s a massive problem we have at the moment. Just to sign Partey & Aouar we need to shift four non HG players or start deregistering players. Clubs know this and will use to their advantage. You’d hope we can move Torreira, Mustafi, Sokratis & Kola but may end having to compromise further on fees.

Signing of Mari & Cedric making less and less sense with every day!

A few days to go now. Doesn't bode well because Mustafi news is fake, Sokratis have no credible outlet reporting, Torreira deal we are at the mercy of Atleti sales, nobody wants Guendouzi and of course Ozil. Only Kolasinac is leaving so far. And we have a severely depreciating asset in Laca which you will see the knock on effect of keeping in in the next few windows.

Things have gone really quiet, this time of the window when that happens it is not a good sign at all. Clear we are struggling to shift these players which will mean nobody will come in.

Things can change very quickly though, football clubs always leave things until the end and then there is a mad rush to get everything done.

It struck me how close to indiscernible our two teams were this week. You stick Aubameyang in either squad and it’s a first team basically. That’s a sign of gross misallocation of resources.

Would I trade a guy who can't even get a start in the League Cup for a guaranteed starter? Give me a minute to think about this here.

If nothing is moving then that's the reality. You can't sell off the good or promising parts of a team just to acquire more potential, that's such a backwards way of doing business. Did people learn nothing from the last decade?

What sort of fee are we going to get for Nelson anyway when we can't move Torreira and Guendouzi? Liverpool get money for their squaddies because they're the title holders, nothing more to it than that.

We should have been smarter in this window and secured players that were attainable, but I reckon all the turmoil at the club along with the hangover from last summer fucked us over. Shit happens.

Exactly.

And also, the biggest question mark is still Arteta. He can't get everything he points at right away. We have signed five players since he arrived. Time to perform with this squad and earn a bigger transfer budget next year. That's the deal Lampard got at Chelsea last season, and he delivered despite not being very good. Tet needs to do the same for us. Our squad is flawed, sure, but the biggest issue I see with the team right now is something we could fix tomorrow, without Aouar and/or Partey, if we were just willing to sacrifice some of the defensive assurances for a bit more attacking potential. We have some of the worst combination play in the league, and it's almost entirely by design.

Goon, we have lots of good young players. There is a difference between selling off all your young players and trading up. We are 6 games into the season. How many of those has Nelson started? I like Nelson but my priority is building the best possible first 11. It’s not useful to us to have the deepest collection of youngsters in the league if you cannot build a competitive team in the short-to-medium term. Klaus asks if we haven’t learned anything from the past - I have learned these lessons - we often had too many kids and never built a sufficiently strong first 11 to compete for a trophy. Let’s not repeat that shit.

Look at the team. Who would get into Liverpool or City first 11 in the next 1-2 years?
