but so many? if only half were colossal failures we wouldn't be in this mess.
It doesn't matter if they are failures. We have the benefit of hindsight now. It's easy to criticize the club and honestly we are nonsense at alot of things, but at that point of time just look at their respective transfer thread, people were excited. They looked like the correct profile too.
I mean let's analyse just the 4 names that is mentioned as failures here.
Laca - weird one for 50m but because we were slow in the market got fleeced by lyon. Was a good profile, prolific striker. Served as decently for first
3 years. Should have sold to Roma in the summer to cut loss now we will get nothing for him
Xhaka - by all accounts captain material, swiss Xabi. German league viewers raved about him, fans were really happy when linked with him and watching YouTube compilations. Even though there were long posts and analysis of how good he is, I was shocked by how slow and clumbersome he looked that world cup but he's the type of player that will still be worth it in the right system. Should have cut loss and sold to Hertha last year instead of renewing his contract when it was clear he is not going to cut it in England.
Mustafi - Most infuriating and obvious flop ever, but yet again it looked the right profile at Valencia and German NT. We got totally fleeced by Valencia, same thing was slow when they wanted a little more than 24m and panicked when the window was late and Chelsea came in. Within half a year it was clear as day guy is one of the worst defenders ever although people thought I was hating on him. By that summer we should have already sold him. By the next summer even Pulis didn't want him. By now he is just a meme and whole world knows he is terrible.
Pepe - Not going to call him a flop yet, but he was one of the hottest property in the market. Ignoring the fact we might have overpaid for him because he didn't live up to his promise, what he did in France was seriously impressive. If Napoli get him he would probably be strutting his stuffs better in Serie A with so much space to play in and we will be scolding the board for not getting it over the line. The fact that Bayern scouts didn't want him could have raised an alarm which turned out to be spot on, but he could still come good.
Buying and risking big buys are not the issue with us. We always have cash, but Wenger didn't want to use it. Now, we still have cash to spare if we wanted more than Partey. The big problem is not cutting our losses and replacing flops. The squad is so big because its filled with flops.
