you need to have a system in place for time to value. if the boy doesn't show his value in two years from arrival, we need to consider it. if we drag it out beyond then, we will lose progress against our goals. players must also have this in the backs of their minds. this is a high-performance environment

I think we should chill till next season on Pepe. He’s a confidence player it seems. If Arteta manages him right he will be more effective next season. He owes us about 40 million though.

Pépé prescription for the summer is two a days. Lots of running. Then he needs to find some boys to ball with so he can do passing drills like numbers passing and pass and overlaps. Just needs to get comfortable with stamina and motion offense. Ball all summer. Return a man.

So, the problem in general with us as fans is once we have a good result or two, we are quick to turn a blind eye to the flaws of the team and acquire a positive outlook to our situation. Yes, the team looks better organized and disciplined enough to soak up pressure, aka we know how to park the bus, but we are still doing the same thing Emery did last season that got him labeled a “coward”.

Our squad is crap, the parts don’t work. We need that player or two who are capable of being the glue that pulls the whole thing together. This would mean making hard decisions. Either Auba or Laca or both have to go so we can raise the funds to reinvest in the midfield Arteta wants. With a good midfield you don’t need an Auba level striker and you liberate your wingers, fullbacks and can even get some goals from the middle also. Right now, all those goals, and more are condensed into one single player, who is going to be overpaid (For a non Europa league team) next season and a year past his sell by date. We are making the same mistake we made with Ozil all over again. It’s frustrating y’all.

I’m aware there are other players that must go, and we absolutely should be working on those too, but if we believe Arteta is the coach we need, then now is the best time to blow this whole thing up and build the right way. Let’s stop with this half way, one step forward, two steps back reboot cycle that we tend to do every year.

So let’s go ahead and Load up the bus. Fix the middle, fix the defense. I don’t believe Saliba-Mari-Luiz is going to help us not ship another 50-60 goals next season, so we need a quality signing (or two) in the back line, Another two in midfield, and perhaps one signing upfront to pick up the slack if Auba is sold. I’m talking around 150 million quid worth of investment here.

It’s what must be done.

Well said flobs. After the wolves game, there was even a suggestion of renewing mustafi. We've suffered so much this season that we're desperate to cling onto any positivity, and it can cloud ones judgement. We have to remain clear eyed on what needs to be done

Im still torn on auba though. If we can do a deal that doesn't hamstring us like ozil, im for it. That might be unrealistic though

TBH if we finish mid-table and lose the FA Cup Final I'd expect to see a player exodus of sorts for a variety of reasons, such as wanting UEFA football for personal honors, age, and international selection prospects.
Some of those would likely include players who like the club, Arteta etc, but circumstances make them feel they need to leave.

Stuck with: Cedric.

Should sell to finance other signings: Lacazette, Ozil, Kolasinac, Sokratis, Torreira, Gendouzi, Mkhitarian.

Get out: Mustafi, Chambers.

I don't agree with getting rid of Bellerin but you could argue it's worthwhile for the right money. You could probably argue that for Martinez.

Feels like CB, CM and upfront are all a bit lacking:

I agree with the squad isn’t good but I disagree with your methods.
Arteta’s time has been very illuminating for me. It has proven that a manager with a plan can draw elite performances from our players and confirmed that we have been behind our peers on the coaching side of things.. it has also shown that bad general management has led to too many players of inadequate quality who together don’t thrive in any specific system.

So we must learn from past mistakes as we build a team. That means recruit against a system, allowing for flexibility; and bring in players of the highest technical and physical ability. When you look at our squad, Aubameyang is one of the very few players who have thrived in Arteta’s 433/343/55 systems. He possess the combination of ability, stamina, fexbility, selflessness to do it. He is the model we must build against. Tierney is another with his elite performances in both defense and offense and ability to play 3 positions perfectly. Those men are the building blocks we start with.

I agree that we must generate funds, but you must generate funds against a winning plan. If you don’t have a plan and then sell your best resources, you’ll just continue the downward spiral

I’m wondering if we are going to regret signing Edu. Kia taught him a few lessons at Corinthians. Could do the same here. Kia is worse than David Dein’s spawn. That guy would rob the club of all its best players. Kia is just burdening us with bad contracts
