Pablo Marí will be loaned to Arsenal until June, Flamengo will receive €5M for this period. At the end of the loan, Arsenal will have a purchase option established in the contract. (Value not been revealed by the agent). [

1 - claims it was Flamengo who tried to increase the price as opposed to us rejecting the agreed price;

I wonder what we are looking for after a CB? We had a lot of links with full-backs, but I think I would prefer a CM.

What I found interesting is that The Athletic said that Arteta specifically wanted a left-footed CB. Although Luiz is right-footed, he plays on the left side. I hope this just means Arteta wants to play with one right-footed and one left-footwd rather than benching Luiz.

Luiz will be less central defender for us. He’s also our best central defender.
So we have two central defenders on long term injury and one slowly making his way back? I fear for Saliba. This position isn’t meant to be solved.

Mustafi's injury is reported to be a bad sprain with no ligament damage & he will possibly be back shortly after the break. This means Chambers is the only long terms injury and Holding slowly coming back.
I don't think injuries themselves are the problem as opposed to either poor team structure on the pitch (square pegs etc in terms of roles etc), or poor squad building in that your cover options are either too raw or too old and not pushing for starting time.

Agreed - we have great options in terms of potential but they are also all different types of players so we don't really have like for like cover.

Will he possibly stay more central now with Luiz and Mari playing to the right and left of him respectively?

Or maybe Mari is just a backup and we're overthinking it...

Xhaka's moving left is to put him in the least exposed defensive role whilst still allowing Zaka to join the attack, but I'd also like to see him drop centrally and play between the 2 CBs now we have a genuine left footed CB option.
I keep seeing most blogs/reviews say that we play with a 3 man midfield ahead of the 2 CBs as in a 'W', but I think Xhaka drops into a back3 / 'M' so that the outer CBs better cover the flanks whilst the centre remains strong with 2 CMs covering the middle with the central CB. It means Luiz can be far more pro-active in the central role and not expose a lone CB partner.

I like the idea of Xhaka being central again, with Luiz to his right and Mari to his left, spread out. Three players who are good on the ball in positions that favour their strong foot should help our ball-domination.

Very good deal, option to buy is a no brainer deal. Hopefully he and Luiz can strike up a good partnership

I like the idea of Xhaka being central again, with Luiz to his right and Mari to his left, spread out. Three players who are good on the ball in positions that favour their strong foot should help our ball-domination.

It makes it so much easier not only in looking to play out from the back, but also in terms of creativity in transition if all 3 can play good long & cross field passes.
