Good signs all around. Building some steam, the back six were far more connected to the front four this week and we played positively and to our strengths. We're moving in the right direction.

The setup for this match was fairly unusual for us. On the ball Xhaka drops to left CB position in a 3-4-2-1 while Nelson and Laca took turns switching in and out the CF position. AMN operated as an inverted FB but Saka played wingback. This happened fairly consistently in the match and appeared to be the plan

The moment we lose the ball we drop into a 4-1-4-1. Bournemouth decide to keep tight on our left wing while attacking our right, but as a result Nelson was often free. First half Nelson was poor but the second half he began to take players on - still badly needs goals mind.

4-1-4-1 also wasn’t our defensive shape as Torreira and Xhaka were flat. Though the two had a strong game and are building an understanding.

Torreira MOTM for me.

That's because he is a novice.

Barely an issue, he'll get better with minutes or he'll get dumped and we'll find another option. Right now he has to be playing regularly.

He is obviously a high quality player. But he cannot play in an Aubameyang, Lacazette offense. We should have another winger who gives us running and trickery on the opposite flank (Pepe or Martinelli) and Bama down the centre. Then we can have that balance you mention. I like that he is fundamentally such a good player, a bit like Martinelli.

Yeah. I'm just saying that our left wing options are turn over machines and as it stands we can't have that both sides, so Nelson appears to be the best option we have.

You could probably play Nelson left and pepe right, if that is your wont, with much the same outcome. Saying that, looking at the way we used Maitland today, I can see exactly why pepe didn't start on the right.

Saka was budget, but at least he was playing in final balls. Nelson did barely anything of note....not sure “why he has to play”

I suspect Nelson’s playing for his work rate and the fact that he plays passes relatively early.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Saka was really poor going forward. His final ball has deserted him, and he seems to be much less fast than I thought.

Because of his amazing ability to defend? I haven't seen it. The stats don't support it. Looks like he'll give away a pen soon if he keeps playing TBH.
