  • Official: Mikel Arteta is the new Arsenal manager.

lorddulaarsenal he was always able to make an addition or two in attack, he choose not to do so. Since he has been here he got 2 strikers lol. Jesus and Havertz, who let's be real, he got him here to play CM, he was just shit at it at the same time Jesus retired from football, so he got moved to striker.
Give Arteta 100 mil next summer and he will get a keeper, 2 left backs and a center back. Maybe extend Sterling

Gazza M big shift in Ornsteins tone there. He's always been full on praise when it comes to Arteta. Something's up with him and the club. I noticed there was no round up of insider info on our transfer window from him after this summers window.

Don Pacifico yup agree. Their squad and first XI was definitely way worse.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 or sign havetz at all. it's turned out better than i thought, but it wasn't cheap, and imo he wasn't bought to be a 9. that wasn't the grand plan, and it has stymied us making real progress in the forward positions. there's been a casual profligacy with how we spend that gives the impression we have 10 years to get this right.

Don Pacifico yeah, I'm not enamoured with Arteta right now, but people do forget the absolute state our squad used to be in.

It was nowhere near even Brendan Rodgers' one.

Gazza M we haven’t been profligate at all. What exactly is your spend benchmark? Brighton?

Don Pacifico they were in ordinary shape... Klopp (and extended team) turned things around there very quickly.

        Sicario2 - Tier 1

So you want to wait 10 years till we win a trophy?

Artera has been backed like no other Arsenal manager in history. 5 years and £800m later he needs to deliver. How do you know it wasn’t Artera’s idea to NOT sign an alternative to Havertz this past summer? His risk but he ultimately has to pay for it if we don’t win anything.

How do you know it was Arteta idea not to sign a striker? How many strikers moved in the summer that would have improved on Havertz? We did try hard for Sesko early in the window and clearly that move wasn't possible.

Within 5 years we've gone from hopeless to fighting for league titles against basically football's version of Lance Armstrong. We are getting there but our fans need to show some composure and hold our nerve, our fanbase has a nervous breakdown on every blip we have.

Claudius profligate in terms how we prioritise spending. some things have to come before others. im probably in the minority but I've had this problem with our recruitment priorities since the signing of Ben White up to the present day.

Gazza M people always say "we needed defenders" in comparison to "not signing defenders", but it should be in comparison to signing forwards instead. Nedding defenders in isolation isn't really an argument - nobody thinks we should spend less on defenders so that we can put the money in the bank.

Although when I say this, the counter-argument is often that it's not about prioritization, and that we have money available but forwards simply aren't available.

Although when I'm mad about not beating City, the argument is that they have so many more good players than us because of their money.

lorddulaarsenal like the 50 mil center back we play at left back that simply cannot play 2 games back to back?

JazzG ah the old "there was nobody better"

Mate we were in the Europa League final the year before Arteta took over and the same team won the FA cup a year later. You’re making out as if Arteta took charge of Everton.

Yes, progress is all well and good but what metrics would you use to define a good season? Challenge again and come up short?

When does he have to actually deliver or are we just happy with ‘progress’ aka being nearly men.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 When does he have to actually deliver

Who are you replacing Arteta with sorry?

Arteta actually needs to deliver when the guy we have lined up to replace him will definitely deliver.

Don't even think Arteta's that loveable, but I've got no doubt he puts a lot more pressure on himself to deliver than any fan who pops off about him "needing to deliver" ever has.

He needs to deliver every season.

Burnwinter he may put pressure on himself but there has to be something external looking at that to assess where we are and what we need to deliver trophies.

He's dragged us back into the conversation of being in the top 2 but he hasn't yet shown he can get it done and win a title or champions league. It's not clear yet that his approach can do that it's still unproven. So when do you assess that to say that last step might be outside his reach and we need to look for something else?

awooga83 I don't disagree with you, but I do think there seems to be a lot of toys coming out of the pram in a season where we've had a really tough away schedule, combined with 3 red cards in 9 games which have obviously not helped, combined with injuries to, basically, everyone except William Saliba & Thomas Partey this season.

We can sit here and say we should be good enough to cope, but I don't think it's unreasonable to say this season has been a lot. And it's likely that whilst the team is in sticky form currently, we are actually even better than we were last season. So where's your breaking point for getting rid of a manager who is improving us year on year?

                    Burnwinter
What he wants or doesn’t want is immaterial. He has to deliver period.

Who would I replace him with? How about the guy that beat him on Wed night

                      RocktheCasbah

No mate. Forget bad luck as every season we can rationalise what we didn’t win. We should rationalise why we will win. We can always make excuses every season. 2022-2023 it was because Saliba got injured, last year it was because we were bedding in Kai. This year it’s injuries and red cards.
