One Arteta quote from last night really stands out for me
“The first thing is a little bit to change the energy. Last week I was here with Manchester City and I was a little bit down after the game when I felt what was going on. So we have to try to engage everybody, I have to try and convince the players about what I want to do, how I want to do it, they have to start accepting a different process, a different way of thinking, and I want to get all the staff and everybody at the club with the same mindset. We have to build a culture that has to sustain the rest.
It’s exactly what we have wanted for the past decade of rot. So it made me smile. The one concern is he is talking about systematic cultural change from Ozil to the technical team. Cultural change is hard. The simplest reason is that habits are encoded in our brains. If we’ve been acting in a particular way for a long time, while we learn new behaviors, we keep reverting to old behaviors until the new ones unless the new ones have sufficient repetition.
Two questions then: is the size of the change required achievable with our present group of players? Does he have allies who can help manage the change?
