To be fair, the game is very different. Pining for the good old days (which weren't all THAT good, as I'm sure most of us remember) is pointless because that kind of football doesn't exist anymore, at least not at the moment.
We basically need a minimum of 18 out and out athletes (strength, speed, stamina) who are technically secure with a good balance of specializations, and at least four of them who are something special - a cut above the rest.
All need to be 110% focused, driven to win, intelligent on the pitch, and willing to play for the team.
Any properly progressive system will demand this, whether you're Arteta, Mourinho, Klopp, Zidane, Guardiola, Gattuso or Gasperini. Some may sacrifice to attack, some might privilege positional play, some may rely more heavily on individuals, etc. but everyone needs those basics in place to be successful.
