i think they are going to try saka at LB long term so they pivoted, since AMN is not really great defensively at RB. soares is average, but hes at least a competent natural right back and is good cover for bayahreen

Cedric is certainly an odd one - really struggling with the logic here unless we simply don't rate AMN.

It's not £5m, even including his wages, but it'll be more than the £1m Southampton are getting after the agents take their share.

I used to rate Cedric a lot a couple of seasons back, but he seems to have been permanently injured since then. I'll wait and see what Arteta's thinking is and how he plans to use Maitland-Niles, too. At least with both the signings we've made, we can cut them loose at the end of the season if it doesn't work out.

Hm. Ornstein said that Southampton would get £5m including wages (which would mean that agent fees were not included), but to be honest I trust Watts more nowadays.

Once you get into bed with super agents, you tend to get lumbered with some of their leftovers

hes basically an average player. hes a bit smaller than AMN but not by much. his defensive numbers are similar to what they were a few years ago when he looked pretty good. his attacking numbers are nothing special.

the pros of this, imo:

hes an actual defender, not a midfielder being asked to play in defense. you'd imagine his defensive instincts are better than AMN, and if we are trying to build a competent defense, that matters
hes fine as a backup to bellerin and its not like tossing an unproven youngster in there, especially if we need someone to play a european game in the 2nd half of the season if bellerin is hurt
this might mean arteta wants AMN to play in the midfield, which has merit.
switching our target to a RB indicates to me that saka is now the backup LB moving forward (if tierney is ever fit, otherwise he'll be starting material) and this is a move to make sure we have two natural RBs at the club

id have preferred someone better and younger, obviously, but this guy has PL experience at least, and we're only paying a small fee. so whatever. if this means we need to allocate fewer resources in the summer to fullback and we can spend the bulk of our money on central midfield, then i am fine with it

Apparently Barcelona had a 100 million bid turned down by Everton for Richarlison.

Bit desperate by Barca imho.

I can't believe Everton turned down €100m for Richarlison. The market is crazy, but that's a ludicrous offer from Barcelona for a player that is no more than a decent to good player.

Everton should have been smart, accepted Barca's offer, got them to agree to keep it hush-hush, and bought Everton Soares for a fraction of that €100m.

Personally think Soares will be a good signing, I've had concerns over Bellerin for a while now. Ideally we would have got Yan Couto, but looks like he's going Barca.
