The performance on the field, the Deloitte money league and the simple calculations based on it show that we are completely underperforming.
I do think one of our biggest issues has been having a coherent overarching strategy which says what we are trying to do as a football club - what the football looks like, etc. because that then helps us have real clarity on what needs to be done on recruiting, training, doping, how we leverage analytics, etc. it’s possible for the club to look active but not be adding value if there is no clear objective.
A good example has to be StatDNA. We had the best analysts, everyone acknowledged this. But I think we failed to do anything useful with them because it was not clear what they were solving for. Why buy Xhaka or Mustafi? The models may be the most powerful in football but if the planning is weak, that’s absolutely wasted firepower. And I suspect the same could be happening with the trainers and other specialists we have. From the outside, Arsenal looks like mismanagement 101
