kroenke has sufficiently invested in the first team in the last 5 years. the problem is the people getting to spend the money. everyone knows this at this point. we honestly need a real football person at the top of the club. someone who has real experience working for a top class european club. im not going to pretend to know who that should be. egghead was just a pencil pusher who didnt know football. the current guy who stayed on doesnt know shit about football, and edu is waaaaay in over his head.

at some point we went from hugely experienced manager running everything and running himself into the ground to a training center for executives and managers with no experience. emery just got caught in the middle of that weird cycle.

hire a real director of football, someone that understands how to run a club. let him hire the right people. and let him hire the next manager.

money isnt the issue. where kroenke can and should be blamed is his negligence in holding the hierarchy responsible for our downfall accountable

I don't think the Kroenkes will be willing to spend more money after the upcoming fiasco. We really should envisage a short-term future with little available funds for transfers. This will be another undesired consequences of cone boy's tenure.

if/when they sack arteta, its likely we'll be flailing in mid table turmoil (if not worse) and they'll need to make a lot of promises to any manager with any kind of standing/track record

I understand your point, still I think there is a lot of uncertainty in this matter.

As top-tier managers will demand funds and control, Kroenkes could opt for a mid-tier manager, someone who would accept their conditions. After all, if they have already hired a sunday league manager, it cannot be ruled out that the next one could only be, at best, a decent guy (mid tier manager).

Rangnick it is then if we want a complete overhaul, otherwise Overmars and Emenalo have also been talked of.

KSE/the club are reaping what they have sown by not having a clear plan on or off the pitch.

Arteta and Edu are the fall guys for a structure that was never going to succeed with them being so inexperienced and learning as they go.

The club has spent BIG money poorly since before we dropped out of top4, but IMO we continue to prioritise our financial model over the football that supports it. In the last 12 months the club has spent over 400m, 300m of which was spent off the pitch and we have failed to either purge or rebuild the squad. In failing to do so we perpetuate the same issues on and off the pitch, and the cost to properly address the issues continues to increase.

I wasn't thinking in terms of our financial model specifically, just that we are spending more off the pitch than on it when it needs to be the other way around so as to make any real progress other than to maintain the current status quo.

Agreed we are spending more than our current resources can provide, with the kicker being that not only have we not achieved what we needed to, but we don't know where the money is coming from = KSE but it could be in the form of yet another loan.

We have enough resources to compete for CL places without oil money.

Just get competent people managing the squad and resources. That's all I ask.

At this point, we could have unlimited resources but with dumb & dumber in charge, we'd still be where we are now, serving up soul-crushing 'football' in the process.

I'll probably walk if we get taken over by Qatar. who could possibly give a fuck about qatarsenal fighting with sheikhchester city and co. I'll start following a-league more closely and maybe find a team in the championship to support

The issue with Ek would be the cost to make us competitive again post COVID. It's not just a case of a buy-out, it's being able to fund the rebuild required to regain UEFA football with a DoF and Manager who are of the quality and experience required to do so. Additionally with KSE having spent over 400m during COVID there is a very real likelihood that the current price for KSE to consider selling is now beyond Eks capabilities.

IMO we've frakked up the last 2 summers as we've not achieved any of the goals associated with a squad overhaul. To make matters worse we're only 1 starting player different to the squad we finished last season with, and we still have team components that are both unbalanced as a unit as well as not fitting in with the other components of the team.

IMO it will likely take another 150-300m in transfers In to get the quality required to regain top4 within the usual 3 season tenure of any new manager, and that's IF we manage to get a match day squad that is 'fit for purpose', let alone of the quality required. IMO we are going to need to spend 'overs' to get the quality we need in the right age bracket if we want to return to top4 anytime soon.

The concern I have with the likes of Conte is that yet again we would end up with a squad of over priced older players we would struggle to shift.

I've been saying this same thing for ages, however that was also pre-COVID in which we are now effectively starting from a position of debt in regards to our operating costs.
Our revenues should be enough to maintain the status quo once we achieve whatever level that is determined to be, but it is simply not enough to play catch-up in the first instance, even in a COVID depressed market.

The standards would also be brought a lot higher, they would be sitting back right now, or have allowed Emery to start a second season after the most disastrous end of his first season.

Initially, just knowing that we are about to take off, would re-attract players to the club.

Particularly with a manager and GM/TD who are both learning on the job, which is why I wanted both of them replaced prior to the transfer window spend.

I’m of the same mind. I’d still probably follow us but it would all be hollow. I’d genuinely rather be relegated.
