that's the only thing i respect about real madrid and barcelona. i also love that about the green bay packers over here in america. wish the teams i supported were supporter-owned. i guess i do have that with UCLA and they actually get money from me and you feel a sense of ownership in the program.

I agree with Gunnerblog. The board are too focussed on appeasement. This shit right now of making a decision on the manager is another case of it. They sacked Emery without a plan because they didn't want to take the criticism for keeping Emery, yet they timed it all wrong anyway. Punishing Xhaka, making Auba captain and capitulating to Ozil are mistakes made due to capitulating to fan sentiment.

As fans we are right sometimes and wrong sometimes, having the club try to appease us in the minutiae is a terrible way to run things. They need to show leadership and do unpopular things if they think it will be successful.

I don't get the logic. In what way could they have gone against fan sentiment AND be right in this scenario? The only thing that comes to mind is keeping Emery, which I think would have been wrong, or hiring someone like Mourinho immediately, which would have been atrocious.

The article offers very little evidence.

I think they and Emery fucked up completely in how they handled the Xhaka issue. We went into a massive funk after that. They should have rallied around the player instead of punishing him.

Exactly. Lose lose situation for them. They act, they get accused of pandering to the fans. They don’t act, and they are indecisive and not proactive.

I don’t fully buy Gunnerblog’a argument. Many of those things were going to happen. Kroenke needed to go spend big last summer to protect his asset, for example. I think what is most important to say is have a clear plan you are working from whether or not it’s in line with what the fans are thinking. For too long Arsenal have been governed by Brownian motion. We need to have a medium term plan where there is some clarity around playing style and player profiles. Then when major decisions are made people can understand them in a logical context. What Arsenal are doing is just haphazard and sometimes seems to be in response to fan sentiment.

They're awfully constructed as well. Genuinely reads like a secondary school essay and not a very good one.

I like gunnerblog on the podcasts and it sounds like he's a moderately successful comedian, but he's not a journalist.

Like the Guardian pointed out, Arsenal didn't release a statement when Bellerin tweeted "Fuck Boris" yesterday. I guess being against concentration camps was a step too far for them though.

It’s all about money in this world. Fuck Boris doesn’t cost them anything. Ozil has a big following in China though, so that statement will probably cost him. Good on him.

This is NBA and Disney all over again. The West has spent so long fighting for freedom of speech but you are willing to allow China to shape your rules just so you participate in their economic opportunity. I look at this and wonder at what point do western governments remember they serve the people, not the stock market

This is a bit scary. Same as it happened with the NBA, lebron and all...one guy tweets a message and the huge multibillion whole organizations have to send out statements distancing themselves from them.
Can you imagine the backchannels into and influence China must have? Even with no twitter in china..
