There are just no "triangle" options for a midfielder in an Emery midfield. It's just a scattered mess.

No one shows for the ball. Can't help but feel we would need an RVP "False 9" type in this bullshit system just to have some kind of effective central point.

No, not as near as I can tell, but I'm not claiming I'm right.

I think it's no fault of Ceballos today though. Like goon says there's nothing going through the middle, and on the rare occasion they get hold of the ball there are no angles, only vast distances.

Pull Saka and bring on Douzi to step into midfield and to push Ceballos forward.

When Ceballos first came in to the team, his foot work and skills wowed everyone. But I'm starting to see why he need to do so many 360 degree turns every match. He just don't have the initial burst to outrun his markers to get into space for proper passing options. It is kind of annoying he has to check back everytime especially when we are on a quick break.

But there is a player there, just need to sort out his inconsistent passing range.

Just finishing the first half. Do you guys ever go watch your local 1st or 2nd division teams? This match has that feel in terms of overall quality. Our team looks like it's been coached at that level in terms of how the players combine when attacking.

Think it was Captain who called it right away. He really is the slowest midfielder we've had this side of the Graham era.

You've both noted beyond this game about our lack of ability to build through short passing options or a combination of short options with a stretched runner. I think its such an important point, and in my opinion such a fulcrum of a good technical football team. How does a manager fail to address this for such an extended period? So worrying.

Yes, you and Captain had his number.

I was wrong and got sucked in by the few Spain U21 games I saw in the summer, where Ceballos was superb.

I'm not saying he's not hugely talented, but he has a lot of weak points in his game that need improving. And he has been really poor for us in practically every game he's played.
