I thought Sok was good at times last season, but near the end he went to shit. I hope we'll get to see a mostly injury free lineup some time this season, I think it could be really good. Theoretically we're without 3/4 starting defenders, so any team would look bad defensively. Imagine Liverpool without their fullbacks and their best CB.

Disagree. Sokratis was the best out of a bad bunch last season, Holding was good but he made loads of mistakes himself

The team doesn't know how to defend full stop. I always thought Emery was unfairly criticised because most stuff you read about him here has no basis in reality but after 12 months in charge we really need to see better defending as a group. Unfortunately I don't think he has it in him

Hope Raul can work his magic with Simeone next season

Disagree with this. I feel like we kept seeing this kind of performance last season. Remember the 1-1 at the DeathStar. Another one we should’ve won, but we are too easily penetrated. Until this team builds some defensive solidity I just cannot trust them to consistently deliver results. So the team might have potential to be better but based on what they keep doing, this is their level.

The team is better than this, not just potential of players but the team is hampered by game selection, game management. There is way too much of a “What to do” confusion on the part of Emery. Bringing on Mik....Geez. He had Willock, Ozil,....Willock on at the 68th would have helped.
The team, apart from the back line, is solid, at times much better than solid...But the manager lets everyone down with a selection of 3 defensive mids. What’s the point, especially against a Spurs team down in the dumps.

I wish he'd help us to a better defensive record but like you point out he probably doesn't have it in him, his teams have always been porous isn't it? He like Wenger needs top class CBs, or for that matter Klopp, hell, even Mourinho's teams and his overly defensive tactics conceded loads when he didn't have top players in midfield and defence.

My problem is that I personally don't like how this team attacks. It's not improving, thought last season was just bedding in time for his ideas. We are too chaotic for my liking. The good bits seem too practiced which is ok but we lack variety and imagination in how we go forward. I hope once Ceballos is integrated, we see some improvement because we need some finesse and composure, some variation in our tempo.

Disappointing result, we should have beaten them. Put distance between them and us early.

I think we're a better team than they are and we should have won. I can live with a point.

I think the shape we played today (Liverpool-style 4-3-3) is most likely to turn out to be what we play in big games. It has some real issues at the moment:

1) we need our 1st choice fullbacks to make it work.

2) I would rather commit to a rotation of our young midfielders--Ceballos, Guendouzi (who I think has been consistently our best midfielder so far this year, despite being the least physically and technically gifted), Torreira, and Willock--and let them learn how to play together. They will make mistakes but by the end of the year we might have a coherent group.

3) I don't think that Sokratis and Luiz are a good match. I would play one of them (I would choose Luiz) with Chambers now and with Holding when available.

Not just from us, but in general. He's only turned 20 this year and has established himself as one of the first players on the team sheet for a top 6 team (hopefully top 4 this time).
