Claudius that's certainly not true. Tierney bombs forward plenty and is a traditional fullback. In fact you can argue inverted fullbacks are more defensive.

Clrnc I know he bombs forward. But he’s never been the interplay wizard that Timber is. Timber gives us so much flexibility in both directions. He can go out, he can be an auxiliary DM or CB depending on game state. Tierney can do the outside piece exceptionally well, but not the rest. It’s in his small space ball control, passing versatility etc. just not the same kind of player. And that will have a massive impact on our offense if he plays

I’d love to see him at Newcastle etc. he could be a cult hero there

While Tomiyasu is out I'd rather give minutes to Tierney than Zinchenko.

Disagree. Zinchenko doesn't offer anything except cute sideways passes when he's under no pressure. He's still a complete liability at the back and has regular brain fades.

Tierney isn't good enough to start but I'd like to see what he can offer as a sub while Tomiyasu and White are out.

Out of all the leftbacks we've had over the past 3 seasons, Kiwior is the only one who held down the position while being defensively solid, albeit offering no attacking upside, and he was reliable fitness wise. Yet, he gets no flowers, probably because he got done by Sane who also left Gabriel and Saliba flailing too.

I'd absolutely keep him as a LB.

Lol, you can joke about that but the truth is even if we do sell them all we'd still have White, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori, and Kiwior for 4 positions with 4 of them able to play multiple positions competently. You can include MLS there if we actually believe he is so highly rated.

Selling Tierney should have no effect on us. He hasn't played a minute in years. Zinchenko himself has been usurped by Timber/Calafiori and Kiwior/MLS also being brought on ahead of him. I really don't think we need more than one cheapo body in defence even if we sell all three of Zinchenko, Tomi, and Tierney. Though I don't think we're thinking of selling Tomi as hasn't he just signed a new contract last season?

daredevil he also covers Gabriel when he’s out. He does have some significant mistakes I can think of such as vs Liverpool this season, the back pass that led to Bournemouth’s goal this season, and that goal versus Bayern last season.

But I’m overall happy with him. BTW, I predict that we are going to have a number of goals that Calafiori is responsible for this season. And he will be wrongly charged as boneheaded.

Yeah one is probably enough, I'd go with a Hato type youngster though rather than a cheap backup.

Claudius yeah, I'm not sure that Kiwior's been completely defensively reliable. He's been fine at LB but it does impede the way we play somewhat. Will acknowledge that he came good after a run in the team but still not what I'd want from a LB.

Cala will be at fault (and has already been) for a few goals. It's fine though - he's still aclimatising and our defense as a whole hasn't been as robust this season due to his inconsistent personnel etc.

Those were all mistakes playing as a CB. I would only ever keep him as a LB.

His lack of offence was ideal for how the defence functioned last season, with Kiwior dropping back and forming a 3 man defence alongside Gabriel and Saliba, whilst White inverted.

As a CB, he's been a disaster, but a different story as a LB.

Don Pacifico I also think we are much more vulnerable on the left, and that's just a structural thing. 40+% of our paly goes down the right, and last week we were up to 60%. It means that on offense we can switch to a wide open left wing. But it also means that when we lose the ball, the entire left side of the field is unoccupied, giving teams space to run into. You rarely see the opposing left winger running at us, or throughballs behind the right centre back and right back. Because that side of the field is congested.

Bit of an issue considering his primary role in the squad is as a CB.

I'd get rid of him, Tierney, Zinchenko and Tomiyasu.

Pepe LeFrits the one thing I'd say is he's never had a consistent run in the team at CB to really gauge his level. Devil's advocate I guess says that's irrelevant though if we only need him to perform on sporadic occasions.

Only having one player outside our first XI (White) we know can slot in at CB is a problem though, for sure (don't think Tomi, Timber, Calafiori have played there despite their potential flexibility).
