Yep, fair point. I think he'd improve at a new club too, at least in the short term. If I were the buying club I would worry about his age though, and what's gonna happen if he gets even slower. He wasn't exactly an outstanding athlete to begin with. I think in slower leagues like Italy or Spain he could have a year or two extra at the peak compared to if he stayed in England.

I think he'd be a good short term signing for United, they're crying out for a player with a bit of creativity. Apart from that yeah I think Spain or Italy, or PSG, maybe even Bayern as a Coutinho replacement.

I mean, Inter are leading the Serie A at the moment. They've got something good going on there, it's not like they're a small club.

I'm not sure. You could also say that they're "Arteta quality" and he helped us a lot. Both of them provide something United are severely lacking. There's something to be said for good players who have proven themselves in the league as well.

Maybe but you don't want an Arteta type signing at striker for a start. And we signed Arteta out of desperation and we never won a title with him. I usually think we need more signings like those ones but United are the opposite. They need a bit of something else, they've already got loads of good but not brilliant PL players and they've paid through the nose for them, they'd the same here. If anything should worry us about it its how Wolves would re-invest their £100m+

Exactly.

Try and sign the absolute best you can for a position, and try to get the rest from your youth system.

Those signings are not going to elevate them.

We made this same mistake for years.

And we have/had a pretty limited budget, Arteta was great for us but he was a signing to stop the rot, not to lift us up. United will spend a small fortune this summer anyway, I'm at ease with them spending it on Neves and Jiminez as I don't think thats going to set them on their way back to the top.

Absolutely. Such small timers at one of the richest clubs in the world and easily the biggest club in England.

"Stopping the rot" at United and making them a top 4 team would mean the same for us as if they lifted themselves up to title challengers though - one more club competing for our Trophy.

The difference is means though, we were limited so signing Arteta was the best value for money we could get. Most people spending what United spend every summer would end up with a far better squad than they have now. They're going to have a £500m+ team anyway so it may as well be full of decent PL players like Maguire, AWB, Jimenez, Neves, etc than put together a team with stars that can go beyond us.
