It took the likes of TH, DB10 & Pires some time to adapt so we shouldn't expect anything different. It will also depend on how quickly the team adapts to be able to get the best out of him.

Exactly what I was thinking. You just know he’s still got bags and bags of room to improve. Still so young. If it goes right we can have him for the next 5 years and still be able to make a profit if we decide we want to sell him eventually.

Agree Mags. I'm not excited by the price tag, but by his profile. Fast, tricky, looks to play with joy and fun. Remember the fun Pires, Henry and those guys used to have? The celebration of the hand over the mouth?

This is what I hope Pepe brings to us. Arsenal has been too gloomy recently. I'm looking forward to the fun. Bring on our new Musketeers!

we haven't had a player that can draw and beat defenders, pick a pass, or go for the solo finish. it looks like he can withstand a degree of physical pressure as well.

alexis is the closest we've had to that, but he lacked the diversity of dribbling that we expected. i think i saw him beat his man on the outside twice in his arsenal career. pepe favours cutting in, but is comfortable going outside too

I'm also excited about this signing. He seems the perfect combination of carrier/creator/finisher that we need in that wide forward position. I think having a player with that combination of abilities will also give us greater options and flexibility in other positions within the front 3/4. For example, Iwobi's lack of goals from the left should become less of a problem. Similarly Auba's lack of involvement in build up if he plays on the left. And whoever plays up top should benefit from the extra space that Pepe's presence should bring.

That's what i'm doing as this i'm worried this thread is hyping him up to a super player based on one season in Ligue un which is a step down from the Premiership. We saw Alexis tear it up in Serie A but not in La Liga so it's best to wait and see as i watched full matches of him in the AFCON where i saw flashes of his skill but he was not as productive as Iwobi, Zaha or Mane.
Also like most left footed players who play on the right he is not a pure winger but there is payback from his cutting in as, like Alexis, it gives him a better angle for goal scoring opportunities which is a positive.

like prime pires, alexis, and - the most extreme example - robben, there must be an acknowledgment from the opponent that there's a deadly price to pay if you let him cut in. if he can get to the level where cutting in = red alert (like robben), then it forces the opposition into predictable defensive patterns that someone like auba can exploit with movements in behind

I think when he cuts in he becomes more lethal when he receives a quick return ball so i hope Laca doesn't keep getting tackled trying to control the ball for himself.

I know it’s a bit pissy

But that highlights how much bigger our fan base is. The club needs to act like it’s as big as it is and that it charges a premium for tickets. Fortunately we’re seeing signs that the new management know that. We’ve been punching well below our weight over recent times.

Really think there’s truth about Stan not wanting to pump money into the club or atleast losses the purse strings until he gained full control and ownership
