If we can get him playing at his best he's a bit of a game changer because he offers consistent goals from the wing. I'm not expecting him to give us the sort of numbers he got in France but if he can get a dozen goals a season from the wing that would really bolster our attack. He seems like a really annoying player to defend against too, his dribbling and direct running cause a lot of problems for defenders and you see a lot of bookings against him as a result.
So here’s the one thing that makes Pépé useful if we can really integrate him. He breaks routine. A bit like Mahrez. Sometimes our attacks can get predictable. Pépé is a bit different. He will take on players. He will take on shots from different angles and positions, with men on him or from narrow positions. What’s good is that even though his chances exhibit bad shot selection and go against the ethos of working the ball until we get a good look, he actually has a high conversion rate on them.
So I think he can help the rest of the players by unsettling defenses a bit, and making it harder for defenses to just sit and low block the rest of our players. Creating space for everyone else.
He just needs to work on losing the ball. He’s already worked on demanding the ball more and getting more pressures upfield.
