I mentioned in jan we should offload pepe even if we take a loss. He'd be really hard to offload now without a huge loss. His stock was still high after a few months here. 70M is our transfer budget for 4 windows(2 seasons).

Since then we've played gabriel and saka completely out of position ahead of him.

I really hope hes been killing himself working on his all round game. But I fear he hasn't or the manager would give him more trust based on his potential.

we're a magnet for losers. ozil has infected this club. now all these cunts that come in with a high price tag think they've arrived and it's now time to put their feet up. we need players who are hungry to achieve and leave for the truly great clubs like our previous winners (martinelli seems to have that mentality). no reason pepe shouldn't be trying to make a name for himself so real madrid, barca or bayern can come in for him, other than the loser is happy with the status and money he has at arsenal.

Why bring Pepe into the discussions? He probably was kept on the bench as a wild card and at 2-0 and 10 men, no point bringing him on anymore. Might as well rest him for Brighton.

There were some people who thought he was the next Salah or something, but most of us are aware he is a work in progress. Give it some time, he has had a decent first season statistically.

As usual he's left out and we do nothing in attack. I get that he's not perfect but there is really no excuse for not using him. He's our star signing, he's done pretty well for goals and assists when given a chance, its up to Arteta to figure out how to get the best from him. I agree with you folks, we need him. I think the reluctance or the 'excuses' have to do with the 20-30 metres of terrain he leaves unchecked infront of RB and around CM as well as the weird positions he chooses to drop for pick up, and on occasion completely halting our pace in those moments. Imperfections possibly decisive enough to let down Arteta's system. I do think that if its not Pépé minutes it needs to be Martinelli minutes. Wouldn't go for an inverted winger there.
I also didn't expect him (or Özil for that matter) to be match ready for campaign restart.

Like I say this something the coach needs to work out. Arteta seems to have been overly concerned about solidifying the defensive side of things and as a result we've lacked creativity in general since he's taken over. And adding solidity is fine until you have an idiot like Luiz fuck it all up. Someone in midfield needs to cover for Pepe, in fairness Pepe is a wide forward, dropping our most productive wide man because he doesn't defend enough isn't a luxury we can afford. This isn't Pep dropping Sane.

Showed us exactly why Arteta dropped him IMO. Still looks like he's not ready. I'm more curious about Gabi.

We have to play him into shape. The guy looks out of shape but is still bringing goals and assists.
I want us to find a way to bring Gabi, Pepe and Saka into the same team. If it means putting Aubemayng central, Saka at 8 and Gabi at 7, then that's what we should do. Happy to have Willock and Guendouzi in there in completely workmanlike roles.

I was actually happy with much of the game Saturday. We took the match to those idiots. Saka hit the bar and Aubameyang would've received striker's advantage pre-VAR. We looked the more aggressive team but our loose rear end failed us again.

His numbers are solid. For a guy with a reputation for taking at least 1 season to settle in, and considering the coaching tumult, he's been ok. Obviously we bought him to be a leading light, so let's see if he grows into that role

Hes brought here to be our danger guy. Like when we used to get the ball to cecs on the break or henry teams would shit themselves. Even ox when he played RB the team got a lift when he got on the ball driving forwards.

His all round game is beyond shit so he started hiding. Hes been working on it all year I'm sure its improving. But when you think how often you see him getting on the ball compared saka its really embarrassing. Even if you compare it to Miki. Miki was endlessly involved in the game both offensively and defensively. Pepe is the opposite of that endlessly involved player. It's just really hard to play a man down when the midfield is so poor.

He has some insane traits so the rest of his game only needs to be ok.

He is too weak, need to bulk up. He also have no power when dribbling and that is a huge problem in this league. A bit like Walcott, powderpuff. You look at someone like Bergwin, he has pace and power to burn and it makes a big difference in this league.

That said, he have many good points in his game especially his right foot. Extremely skillful in unorthodox dribbling. I don't think he is worth 72m personally even though his stats is still pretty decent this season. For 40m everyone will be very happy. Bayern's reservation about him was very valid, he is a pure counter attacking player which meant he was very impressive at Anfield when we played that way but needs a lot of work in a possession based team.

Pepe is one of those players who would have thrived under Wenger (bit like Sanchez). He's someone who needs a bit of freedom to do his thing rather than having his whole game spelling out for him with the threat of banishment if he doesn't comply. It doesn't help that he's basically got that whole right side to himself, no overlapping full backs to make space and no one to play off either. He gets the ball and is expected to take on 3 players and then people whinge when he's forced to pass it back or dribbles into trouble.

It's time for Arteta to start focusing a bit more in getting the best out of our most talented players rather than protecting the worst.

I'm not sure about this personally. Off the top of my head I don't recall many of his goals/assists or best moments coming on the counter.

I wonder if we could realistically offload him to PSG or some similar club this summer. It has to be doable. United got most of their outlays back for Di Maria and he was much worse for them than Pepé has been for us. His stats aren't horrible and you could probably cut a pretty good skill compilation out of his time at Arsenal, but jesus christ does he look like a non-league footballer sometimes when he has to do other things than dribbling or cutting in from the flank and shoot.

Yeah, was thinking about this in relation to Auba's likely departure. Given we'll need to build a team around our best remaining players (if you assume we won't be able to get a direct replacement), I think it'd be interesting to see what would happen if we designed a system around Pepe. He's obviously got skills no one else in this squad possess; increase the importance of his role, give him more responsibility and a little more autonomy to get the best out of him.

His attacking ability is obvious, think it'd be premature to let him loose this quickly.
