I think Mane in the past 1 year plus has been ridiculous good for them especially in big games.
Do you still not rate him at all Ricks or have you changed your opinion?
Mané has had a superb year. Agreed. One of the best forwards in Europe right now.
On Arnold, I've never said there aren't things about his game that I really like and are very good. His passing from deep is hands down his best weapon; it's superb. He is a vital part of their build-up play. His crossing is good, not great, but good, as is his set-piece delivery. All that said, he is an utterly dreadful defender. He has poor speed, especially off the mark. He lacks agility, gets caught square-on constantly, his positional awareness is awful, he switches off at the back post and one-v-one, he's dross.
He is lucky from that point of view that he plays for a team that has 70% possession most weeks and asks him to do very little defending. So his strengths come to the fore and his weaknesses aren't too often exposed. He also plays next to two very good centrehlaves in Matip and van Dijk; probably the strongest, most athletic and quick there is in this league.
Put him in Maitland-Niles' position in our team and you'll see a whole lot more of what he's rubbish at, I promise you that. Opinions would sway very quickly when he's asked to do more of the stuff a fullback is supposed to be able to do. But it works for him and Liverpool right now, so fair enough. I'll remain patient. 🙂
