Aguero may now have a clearer case for being the Premier League's best striker. Thats fair enough too, as records are meant to be broken and they don't make defenders like they used to. Shame its for a club that sometimes fails to sell out but credit it to him. We've seen so many south American players fail to acclimatize to this league. He just moved in like knife through butter.

I'm shocked that even in the era of the superclubs, Aguero hasn't bettered Henry's goals to games record. I can't even imagine the number of goals Henry would have got in the past 10 years if he were playing and in his pomp.

Good point. Henry's top 10 in assists in the Premier league, and no striker has come close to his 02/03 season of 24 goals, 20 assists. Thats indicative of total football from a striker.

20 assists is still the maximum of any player not just striker in a single season.

In Henry's first spell for us, he scored 174 goals in 254 games, exactly the same as Aguero.

And even if Aguero had beaten Henry by a few, the point remains: prime Henry in the era of the superclub would be off the charts in terms of PL scoring.

Your point remains, yes, but Aguero played his 255th game yesterday. He beat Henry's record in fewer games, that's all I'm saying.

Henry came back on loan at 34 years old and scored 1 league goal in the 4 league games he played. That is surely irrelevant to any comparison? Therefore, their records are identical.

When talking about who has the best goals to games record in the league I don't think you can pick and choose, but for the sake of your argument, let's do it and we're left with:

Aguero 177 goals in
Henry 174 goals in 254 matches
Aguero 177 goals in 255 matches (3 goals more in one more match, not an identical record unless you're for some reason counting the 254 first matches of Aguero instead of calculating the average from all of his matches)

I've already said that I see what you're saying, I'm just pointing out that Aguero, no matter how you choose to do that math, is on top when it comes to goals to games.

If you see minutes to goals ratio Aguero is even further ahead. He is rotated far more than Henry.

Semantics aside, I know what Ricky means though. Aguero plays in a team that has consistently scored close to 100 goals and is a proper goal scoring striker vs Thierry's team centric approach to the game, you'd have assumed he'd be well ahead. It's not a criticism really, just surprising.

Yeah, minutes per goal is:

Aguero is also the most efficient striker in terms of minutes per goal. He has scored on average once every 106 minutes in the Premier League. Kane is on 120 minutes per goal while Henry is third on 121 minutes per goal

I think it's precisely because Manchester City is this mega-club with unlimited resources that Aguero not further ahead they have the luxury to rotate him (I remember Pep used to take him off early or not use him at the start of his tenure to make a point) and also alter their playing style to suit others.

Flip side is over the course of his career here, I feel like Henry has had to play with a bunch of scrubs at times (post invincibles), while Aguero has always had top notch wingers and midfielders aiding his exploits.

Stats aside, I'm guessing no one is going to argue Aguero is even half as good as Thierry Henry?
