Been thinking about Ndombele and Pepé lately, and I suspect their struggles are related to the fact that Ligue 1 is such a weak-ass league. I guess that's part of the reason it's such a good breeding ground for young talents. The step-up to the first team is only half as big as it is in Premier League. Literal acres of space to run in everywhere and no one ever presses you efficiently. The added training in England to match physical demands seems to be a bit of a bottleneck for many players.
Not just them either. Seems to be bar the odd exception that a lot of the hyped ligue 1 attackers in recent years are coming up short. Think Lemar, Malcolm, etc we have had similar issues with Germen imports and even Spanish though. We need to buy more within the PL.
Yeah, that's a good point. United always used to do that under Ferguson. We couldn't because we got priced out, but I think we have the opportunity to do it now maybe. Things are getting really expensive in other leagues either way, so why not pay a few million extra for players who have already proven on and off the pitch that they can adapt.
