Qwiss It's more the degree of it I don't get. A transfer (or an extension) breaking down due to agent fees effectively means that everything is sorted except the agent not getting enough money, and the player is like "alright, I guess I'll move to another country instead."

Always felt like a low level worry to me, I suppose it will remain so till the ink is dry on the contract. He looks very happy at Arsenal and happy players don't tend to leave football clubs.

Bottom line is for Arsenal to find someone close to being as good as Saliba, even if they could, it would likely cost them a shit ton of money - so just give that money to the player who's at the club and has had a stellar first season.

agreed. if saliba was at a midtier club and on the transfer market, we'd be gagging to throw 70-80m at him. let's save ourselves the hassle and just pay the guy

If Ødegaard's extension gets completed before this one, that'll be quite something with half the XI renewed before the conclusion of this. Not that I'd wish any ounce of this outcome and no serious indications its likely, but we need enough time in the summer window to sell if talks break down, and enough time to backfill. Only so many times I can hear about 'positivity' and 'willingness' before sweating a little!

Saliba is good enough that you risk losing on a free if it seems likely that he'll sign. I'm not remotely worried for what it's worth.
