The on the ball thing is an unfair comparison. It wasn’t expected for a centreback to control the ball. The Invincibles countered, sprinted fast. If the counter failed they kept the ball high up the field. They didn’t have to circulate possession back to the centreback. Sol’s job was stopping attacks. Not creating them.

I agree with that. It simply was a different time.

Sol was so rarely beat one vs one in his whole career let alone in prime.

Prime Sol walks into this team no doubt.

Even in 2010 when Sol returned, he outpaced Gareth Bale when we went to WHL.

Agreed, should have extended his contract before sending him out on loan but it is what is is. He is a first team player and this season been one of the best CBs in the league, so his salary has to represent that.

Amazing young player but if his "team" is holding out for 50% more than Martinelli, I'll be annoyed.

His old partner Fofana secured 200k pw, and I think Kounde is on 160k+ pw. Granted those are deals commissioned by horribly run clubs, can sort of see why his party wants to probe further especially if Arsenal wants a nice long contract. Hope this doesn't drag on too much though. Everyone needs their future secured and Saliba should have a sole focus on contributing and improving.

He is a great player, and he seems like a good lad, and he deserves a very high wage given his stratospheric potential. But I seriously don't like the way he's managed and stage-managed, and he is not a flawless defender either.

If Saliba wants to pop off to flirt with relegation somewhere like Chelsea, and have someone like Potter trial him at centre forward for £300k per week, then that club can pay us £100m for him. What he should do is take a great wage at the best club in the world.

QuincyAbeyie All the words in that sentence are key. We're too good a club to get reamed by the agents of a young man whispering in his ear about what his peers might be earning at lesser outfits.
