No doubt it’s not been a well managed situation, but from what I’ve seen of him he’s not ready. Some very good traits but so clumsy. That’s in youth games. He’d get massively caught out in the Premiership

He was fine overall. They conceded late. Not clear who was at fault in the defense. Should’ve cleared their lines better. One thing that might be a concern is having watched that defense in 2 games, I suspect Saliba will have to step up and be the leader. Nice might get another defender like Sakho in which might help, but not having a guy like Dante to mentor him is a minus.

Only other note is I think once or twice on his forays into midfield, he didn’t get DM cover and Metz could’ve broken but didn’t capitalize. Teams like Spurs would’ve exploited that space.

GFFN seemed to think he lost his man for the goal, so I assume it had nothing to do with him.

I think its possible he spends a further 12 months on loan. I've seen people liken this trajectory to zouma, the difference being we're not in a position to be spending 27m on a player and loaning them out for an extended period of time. that money could've been used more productively

Zouma went straight into the Chelsea team in the summer after signing and became a starter.

To be fair, my take was that he lost the man running in behind him for the second goal against Brest too. Probably a combination of rust and lack of a defensive unit at Nice.

I would keep him on loan for another 3 years. He's not going to grow much being a squad option here and it would be far better for his development to gain a 100+ appearances somewhere else. He can come back when he's 23 years old.

The whole goal was a mess up from an out of position Lotomba just giving a back pass that turned into a throughball. The goal scorer sped past Daniluc and Attal, behind Saliba, and pounced onto the back pass to round the goalie. [/font]

Not quite like this, he played as a starter for 2 straight seasons, got injured in the 3rd, Chelsea changed manager twice the next 2 seasons and he went on loan because they didn't fancy him (they had like 6 CBs, new manager kept signing new ones). Lampard came back, he immediately became a starter again.

Zouma was atrocious in his first few years for Chelsea, I'm still surprised now that he's putting in half decent performences.

Some Arsenal fans watching thought he was average, and not attuned to the danger for the goal they conceded :
Is the Motm callout a reflection of this weird suspicion that the French fans & media have been stung by his treatment at Arsenal and are going out to make a point?
Either way, glad to see him getting playtime and very excited about the prospect of him eventually playing in our side.
