He also adds that he has had talks with Lyon, Nice, Napoli and an unnamed fourth club and has finalized his destination (not confirmed where though).

All the bookies in France are saying that he will end up at Nice.

Nice have an ambitious project and a mega rich owner, wealthier than Kroenke, Glazer, Henry or Abramovich.

Ratcliffe is a Manchester United fan and reportedly entertained the thought of purchasing the club.

However he was put off by what Glazers want to sell the club.

I much prefer the away goals to the alternative where everyone is going to play super defensively on away grounds.

I don't think they do. They'll always be more likely to win the home game so that's where they have to come out and play to their strengths anyway. Conversely, if you play defensively in the home game and concede without scoring yourself or only score once you're a wee bit fucked.

I think ultimately if you want exact fairness the only way is to play every knockout round as a single game at a neutral ground, but that would take all the fun out of it from a fans perspective and lose the clubs a ton of gate income and broadcasting cash too, so good luck trying to convince anyone of the merit in that. Away goals has always struck me as a good compromise though. I genuinely don't get why so many people loathe it.

I dunno mate. Too often you see teams going for the 1-0 or 0-0 at home as it gives them room to breathe when they go away in the second leg. That's why I always preferred to play the home game first and keep away goals to a minimum and try to sneak a win because when we went away all we needed was a goal to make it a mountain to climb for the opposition. I always hated when we played the home game last even though it's "gifted" to the teams that did better in the group stages.

The issue I have with away goals mainly is the extra 30 mins that away teams get if it goes to extra time. I know people will point out that the home team has fans for an extra half an hour but an away goal in extra time will completely kill the tie whereas a goal for the home team with the fans behind them will still have all to play for.

I personally was never a fan of the away goals rule. I really don't see why is a just way of separating two teams that have scored equal number of goals over 180 minutes. I also don't believe it will change the games as a spectacle. Intent is pretty intrinsic to a team. If anything, the spectre of away goals inhibits the natural intent and game. I will be really pleased if they actually do away with the away goals rule.

I agree that was always the biggest issue, but I thought the solution is that it would no longer apply for the extra time. If it's tied after 180 minutes, then there is no more away goals rule. Another possible solution is have the highest seeded team (or the one who wins a coin flip) decide if they want the 1st or 2nd leg at home.

The away goals does add a nice dynamic in the last 10-15 minutes of a match, where conceding is the difference between losing and winning, as opposed to a draw or a win/loss. That was always the cool thing about it.

First legs are often really cagey because of it though.

I'd like to see a change trialed to see if it made a difference.

For me it's as simple as that I don’t think the team with more away goals is any more deserving of going through than the team with the most home goals (which will of course be the other team in case of a tie).

Interesting report about the conviction of a 19 year old in Singapore for making death threats against Neal Maupay following the loss/Leno injury game against Brighton.

I don't think it will stop social media abuse by any means, and if it is to have an effect I suspect they'll have to follow this up with far more convictions before people stop to think or change their behaviour.

Will be hard for it to work elsewhere.

It helps that the law here is very strict for everything. Recently there was a guy who got sued by our govt for sharing a Facebook post too and got convicted

hopefully they don't include message boards as "social media" then. btw, why isn't a message board/forum social media? is it because the term is relatively new and message boards have been around since the beginning? i really don't see the difference especially since they lump reddit in with the other social media apps/sites.
