you saw that with our latest financial results, for the first time Spurs have surged ahead of us in terms of revenue thanks to Champions League and the Death Star. we need to keep them out of the Champions League this year. they will become the bigger NL club if they keep making Champs League and we falter

Why would any big club be in favour of that anyway?

It would massively depress transfer fees for their unwanted players and it would probably help smaller clubs pick up some real bargains while massively inflating prices for dross at smaller clubs.

It would only be good for clubs that have a good squad now and want to keep wages low. I think its a really dangerous proposal in every other way though. We have a continent full of clubs with no match day revenue and they are suggesting not allowing clubs to sell players to each other?

it's the crazed idea of men who would truly really only want a closed league system like the NFL that would tear the fabric of European football. this is them trying to panel beat remaining in Uefa into their dream end-goal.

This is Wenger's dream job. FWIW, I think it makes a lot of sense if they can get the schedule right to give players a proper break and the net effect is no additional games. You'd in effect be getting rid of a bunch of meaningless games for international tournaments, and would be a rare situation where virtually everyone wins.

Wouldn't more world cups mean more qualifiers? What does "get rid of all the rest mean"? Articles light on details. Like how do you decide who is in the world cup without some sort of qualifying format?

I think "the rest" is just Nations League. But yeah, this would mean a major tournament every summer and the qualifiers need to happen so I didn't quite get it either.

Well I agree on the nations league, its a crap format. They should just go back to normal qualifying and cut out so many friendlies. The nations league only exists to try and avoid the big nations going out as it hurts ratings in certain countries if they don't qualify.

I don't know about that, for Norway which never qualify through the normal qualifiers it's certainly been an extra opportunity.

Of course no friendlies and no Nations League would be best, but as far as I'm aware Nations League just replaced the friendlies so to me it's preferable the way it is now compared to before.

I'd support this, and tbh this is the sort of thinking I was hoping to see from AW in his new role, particularly regarding the game being about enjoyment and rewarding teams playing 'the right way' etc.
