It was disgusting, ”said Cassano

While it shows how very comfortable he is with the ball at his feet, for me that clip shows poor decision making. The direction Saliba has gone to avoid the press automatically cuts out all other passing options available to the full back he chooses to pass to, who is probably then forced to clear the ball and concede possession, or play what needs to be a super accurate ball down the left channel.

There wasn’t really a pass out to the right though. The idiot closest to him should’ve gone wide. A pas to any of the men on his right could cause an even quicker turnover.

Real is the only club where this happens frequently, I swear. Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos gained like 10 kg each from barbecuing every night too. I think it was Becks who said that he had to stop accepting their invites because the waistline on his pants began to strain.

there were a bunch of idiots around him but he should've passed wide. Instead chose to dribble into a crowd to pass to guy who's got no one to pass to.

Partey does that five times a game too and no one seems to have any issues with it. It's fine to soak up pressure if you can avoid losing the ball, but better not get dispossessed because you will end up looking like an idiot.

Soaking pressure is a good tactic, draws people to you and leaves others in space. In fact, I'm pretty sure I remember hearing it's an Arteta tactic for the centre back to commit players. The clip above is just a bad example as he commits players and then plays a poor pass, but it's a useful skill to have.

With Mbappe standing next to Benitez that's probably not the smartest option. Wasn't the point anyway, I was more talking about how we often look disorganised ourselves although to be fair in that area of the pitch both Xhaka and Ceballos usually look to make themselves available for a pass.

Pretty sure Clrnc point wasn't the ridiculous microanalysis of the situation but the confidence with which he got out of the pressing against a world class team. Another indicator that he's not anywhere as far from first team action for us as Arteta deems him to be.
