Footballers might be bland now, they have to be, but I'm not sure it would be better of Messi had a coke habit or if Neymar was an alcoholic.

And let's be honest, nobody celebrates the few 'characters' we have now, they're just called c u next Tuesday's.

historically who were the characters. I know of Maradona, Tony Adams, George Best, but was the whole sport teeming with wild men?

it's probably also harder to be a character now. stars were inaccessible in the 80s. you could create aura. fans went to a Michael Jackson concert and spent the first 5 minutes fainting. Nowadays, we are overwhelmed with content from nobodies like Kardashians

I just roll my eyes whenever Ibra opens his mouth. He either talks like he's in a 80s van Damme movie or spouts bullshit with Raiola like he's doing now about EA using his name in their games.

Carried Argentina to a World Cup practically single-handedly.

Joined an unfancied Napoli team with no chance of any success and inspired them into a period of trophy laden glory they’d never seen before in their entire history.

Played during a time when pitches where horrible and teams sent out hatchet men to try and maim him yet he withstood every tackle and every assault that came his way and still dominated.

Talent, charisma, leadership, skill, winner’s mentality. Had it all. The God of Football and the greatest ever to do it.

I knew we had an interest in signing him, but I didn't realise just how close it was = more so than Ronaldo before he went to MU.
Was reading we agreed to sign him from Boca when TH sign Ardiles and Villa, and the reason it did not go ahead was because the FA would not allow it. As a result we signed Champagne Charlie instead & Maradona went to Barca.
Also read that we were also interested in trying to sign Platini at much the same time = what a combo they would have made.

Speaking of Spurs, they’ve hit 3 or more goals 6 times this season. Free scoring. In this inconsistent league they’ll have enough firepower to cruise into the top 4.

You're wrong about that way of thinking both about Auba and about Spurs. You don't see how good anyone is from two games, you see it over a season. I don't know why you're so obsessed with judging players or teams based on a few select matches.
