Agents can't break contracts though.

Agents will definitely get players better deals and more money, but I'm 100% convinced that they play a hugely negative role in a players making the right sporting decisions. I

Yeah, I mean a better agent would have probably seen the writing on the wall earlier. I just thought Messi was pretty naive in the way he tried to engineer the move and by August it was too late. It's only because of who he was that Barcelona even entertained him, most other players would be laughed out of the room.

To be fair most players don't have a clause like that in the first place. Also apparently he asked to leave last summer already and was asked to hold out one more season, then corona struck - if Messi really triggered that clause of his when they were still in the CL he would have not just instantly become the villain for the public, he would have fucked over his own club and team as its captain. Not everyone of those acts like RVP.

I would say that he has earned that liberty.

Barcelona have made a bank on his brand name alone not counting the trophies he won them.

It's also a face-saving move by Bartomeu. He does not want to be branded as the man who sold god. He can tell people Messi abandoned Barcelona.

Players play a hugley negative role in there own sporting decisions. It's the player that has the most financially to gain by selling out. The agents job is to get him the most from whatever deals are on the table. People feel they know the players so its easy to take aim at the agents. But in reality we know tese guys generally play for the highest bidder.
