Don Pacifico I think the main issue for me with Martinelli is that he doesn't look to have improved in the last two seasons.
Don't think that's even the real issue. Even if he hasn't improved in the last 2 years but had the end product he had then, people would still be talking about him like one of the best wingers in the league. That's what I mean when I say the G/A has a large bearing on how someone is viewed.
Yet we ignore that we as a team have changed significantly from the style of play we had a couple years ago. He does the job thats being asked of him which is to stretch play, stay wide and win set pieces, but I don't think we play to his strengths. I would not be surprised to see him bang them in again if we tweak our system again. In fact I'd be willing to bet that it's more likely than not going to happen in a more direct attacking system like Liverpool's for example.
