It’s pretty clear that’s there is validity in both arguments, and it’s more a question of where you instinctively assess (player vs team).
I’ve been a huge proponent of Martinelli, but he’s not evolved and has clearly stagnated. Arteta has likely over drilled him but at the end of the day Martinelli is also failing with his shooting and dribbling.
That said, we’re clearly not enabling him via our gameplan or the players around him. He had a much better season with Xhaka/Zinchenko on his flank and neither of those are class, just demonstrative of why systems and partnerships matter. I can’t think of anything he and Rice have combined to produce, nor him and Havertz (has he even assisted him?).
