He's taken a step back, something's wrong. Maybe the lack of goals is getting to him and he's trying too hard to make up for it. He had a stretch like this last year too

Can't disagree, he may be working hard off the ball but his attacking output has dropped massively to the point where he's looking nothing like one of the promising young players in the league. This can happen with young players and Saka is similar but the problem is that they are being used as first team players so they have to deliver. We need reinforcements in that area they need help they need time out when it's not really working and it's been like that a lot of the season.

People are fickle as fuck. The guys 22, still putting in a serious shift every week, still terrorising defenders, yesterday not only was he pressing hard but at times he was directing other to as well. Just because he's in a dry spell on the goal front people are turning on him.

Of course its hardly surprising when his biggest critics are also tired of Saka. We'd still be a Europa team without Saka. Some people really just want shiny new shit all the time.

Qwiss He's a huge talent that I'd never want to let go, but in terms of right now it's safe to say that our front-line doesn't look like world-beaters. Martinelli isn't the only part of that.
Unless we assume that we're still at a stage we're we're building the team and plan to still be years from reaping the rewards, then I think they need to be judged on what they're doing now even if they'll probably keep improving.

His age is immaterial, this is his fourth season with us. We are going for the title and he’s playing in a critical attacking position so one will measure against that. I don’t think it’s that controversial to critique a player who is clearly struggling in front of goal.

He is too one-dimensional and predictable for me and hasn’t really improved. A 22 year old shouldn’t be playing like he was at 18, where the trajectory/improvement or is this his ceiling?

Terrorising defenders is great but a player of his quality is judged by output. Nelson can also terrorise defenders as well I’m sure.

Mikel needs to put him out of the fire like and try Trossard there for the next game or two.

Qwiss I don't think they should be sold but if they are being picked as first team starters when we are chasing major honours that has requirements. That are young and will go cold occasionally then get them help they need to have games where they start from the bench or can be rotated so we aren't really predictable and very easy to defend against.

It's not their fault they are always first choice at their age but that's what it means when your in a title fight there will be expectations of the whole 11 of the level needed for their position.

Qwiss neither Jesus or Martinelli has been good enough this season imo. A winger for a title-winning team should score more. Something like last season is needed from the attack.

QuincyAbeyie I agree - I’m a fan of both Martinelli and Jesus but they’re not playing well enough to win us the title. We can carry one but not both. Someone in that front three needs to become a 25+ goals a season player.

QuincyAbeyie thats fair but at the same time one of them has shown he can play a season for us to an elite level and IMO the other hasn't. Plus one is 22 and one 26. I don't expect Jesus to ever change. He has his strengths, in fact he is absolutely incredibly at times but he's a pretty poor centre forward. For all the criticisms of Martinellis 2 league goals Jesus only has 3 and he's the CF.

People want to laud our new mids too but it seems clear to me that added control and the lack of an involved left 8 means we aren't supplying the front line as much or as quickly. The time it takes no for the ball to get from front to back is much longer and allows the defence get back in their shape. Odegaard is the only one of our available mids who can play an incisive pass and its showing in our front 3s form and numbers.

Sicario2 his last season was an objective improvement by every measure and even outscored Pires’ single season goal contribution.

He’s regressed this season and you’ll have to convince me it’s purely down to him and not the tactical changes to the left hand side but there’s no reason to believe he’s plateaued if you take his 4 years into account.

Martinelli is struggling for goals because of Havertz. When Jesus drops deep, it's Havertz now making the runs to occupy the space or to support. Martinelli is remaining wide to keep the width and doesn't have the same opportunities anymore.

Mirth Yeah agree. I actually think we need a new starting striker to rotate with Jesus and a different option on the wings to rotate with Martinelli.

Martinelli when he came was very raw in many aspect of the game. 4 years later he is still raw in some aspects. He doesn't beat his man enough and more often than not needs to over dribble and pass it back.

Kvarat is a pipe dream, but I wonder if its possible to have someone like Mitoma who is having a poor season by his standard and would come cheaper than usual just for a rotation option. Or Luca Koleosho, Pedro Neto (whos injured again), Olise etc

City won the league with 93 points, scoring 99 goals, with KDB as their top scorer on 15 goals.

It helps, but I don't think you need a 25+ a season goal scorer. We have 6 or 7 players who can chip in and score double figures or get close.

What Martinelli, Saka and Jesus need to learn is how to get in positions and make movements to score easy goals.

awooga83 rotation is needed. We get some from Trossard, but I agree it'd be nice to have another option from the bench. Arteta clearly doesn't think its Nelson and tbh I tend to agree with him.
