Probably because Pires was alot more polished in his game and dribbling. How does their assists compare though? Need to judge overall output for a winger

Couldn’t agree more, I don’t think Gabi gets anywhere near the credit he deserves.

That's proper impressive. I mean Pires is like the gold standard left winger in not just my time as an Arsenal fan, but I think probably the history of the football club. And so young still! Look forward to seeing more from him next season.

goon did Sane ever really have a consistent season? I seem to remember him in flashes of form and then getting dropped by Pep.

Anyway Martinelli is great. I think the best comparison with him now are the likes of Rashford and Salah who are the most productive wingers in the league and have very similar output.

Burnwinter TBF comparing Pires and Martinelli based on numbers is a bit basic. Its like comparing Vieira and Fabregas based on who had more goal involvements. Pires played in a different era, in a different formation. Nowadays Martinelli is more of a wide forward than a winger in the early 00's sense. If Henry was at his peak now he'd probably play wide left too. I think Henry scored 17 when he was Martinelli's age so just 2 more for the young Brazillian to match that.

Just madness to hear someone wants to sell him. Honestly wonder what people want out of the game if your’re not happy having a 21yo output monster whose played every game of our best season in 15 years.

Pires also came here as a 26 year old established professional.. For me, Martinelli has a way to go to get to Pires level, least we forget one of three Arsenal players to win the Footballer of the Year award in that era, but that's absolutely fine, he's 21 - what he is doing now is tremendously exciting. And the flaws in his game are easily identifiable, so every chance they can be eradicated.

Genuinely respect the kid for being dropped early Feb and coming back with a vengeance. That's why I have faith that he'll be amongst the best the world by the time he's 23-24.

I'm not getting into the Pires' comparison but he's outscored C.Ronaldo at 21 😎

This is brilliant. He has taken massive strides this season and added a lot of variety to his game.. Dropped a bit when Jesus was out, but otherwise has been quite consistent with his performances

The way he varies his dribbling speed makes him such a tricky opponent. Will be scary AF next season if he can continue to improve again.
