My thinking is that it's pretty easy to hang a couple in the league cup. Even Jay Simpson scored a brace at one point. Martinelli finished a couple of chances beautifully, but even then it was the other things in his game that impressed me more.
What I've seen from him since Freddie and then Arteta took over though - the grafting, the insane number of sprints, the pressing - that's on another level entirely. I think it's showing a mature player who gets his head down and puts in a bigger shift when things are tough. He was voted our player of the month in January too.
