I don't think he will, i think we'll use him to transition the ball forwards when the midfield fails which was most games this season. We we're absolutley shocking at getting the ball forwards. Most of the players we've been heavily linked to look like they'd help with that.

Yeah Emery favors the direct route. Whenever Iwobi comes on it’s clear his instructions are to provide urgency and advance the ball towards goal as quickly as possible.

This is what it comes down to. That price is bad business. £55m plus addons seems reasonable.

I don't really mind that we're engaged in protracted negotiations, the deal might get hijacked but overcooking our offers doesn't excite me.

we heard he might be available and threw money there. as you saw in Raul/Vinai's diagram, scouting is an afterthought.

I hate to sound like Football Manager, but a sensible GM (Raul) would've immediately looked to move Lacazette as soon as the Aubameyang deal was made and started locking in guys like Pepe and Zaha then (18 months ago) when they were half the cost they are today.

This is the same club that saved money by not buying 30m Hazard who recently sold for 90m pounds. Clown cakes. Buying Zaha in lieu of an appreciating asset will be more of the same bullshit

Not to get sidetracked but I think the bigger issue with Hazard was that he didn't want to join us.

Do however agree with your general point and do not fancy paying over the odds for Zaha as a result.

The lesser spotted Dick says we didn't do enough. That at the time, our strategy was one of being custodians of firm finances and being as conservative as possible. When you look at players like Hazard, de Bruyne, Dick needed to be a bit firmer with Wenger and really push for these deals. This lack of ambition is what killed us because in the final Wenger years we just loaded up on scrubs and old men while other clubs invested in appreciating youth.

I always thought the same as we used to use the tried and tested "Wenger pull" and we could promise them trophies.

Obviously they'd score more than Mkhitaryan and Iwobi though.

I'd rather not sell Auba. He's proven and pretty likely to have a great season.

Agree but he is 30 and we won’t getting many more top seasons out of him imo.

This is just be asking a hypothetical question, not based on any speculation. There have been rumours of Utd being interested in Auba but those links have died down recently.
