they had to know they weren't even on South Korea's level, more over USA, France or Netherland's level. they don't belong on the same pitch. when you bring a knife to a gunfight shit like this happens.

Imagine if, after shooting the swordsman, Indy had begun jumping around celebrating his epic victory...

But no. He knew how to win an unfair duel with dignity:

I won't know what the fuck Renard was thinking there, but I'll take it.

yeah i don't know what lady van dijk was doing, it's almost like she was trying to score.

Yep big fan. French team looks quite quick and dangerous. Fun to watch.

I wouldn't even look to score after 5-6 and I see that the opposition is outmatched and game can just be controlled. Part of the motivation is to push yourself to find your best other than just beating the opposition. That happens with a relatively evenly matched competition.

Attagirl Beth. More like it.

The Germans were far more gracious to Brazil when they scored 7 past them in a WC semi-final, even though the Brazilian players were all millionaire pros with the home advantage.

Is it really too much to ask the best-paid, best-prepared team to show some humility when putting 13 goals past a bunch of well-meaning amateurs in a group stage game?

Just seen this πŸ˜† embarrassing doesn't even come close. You celebrate your 9th goal like that maybe in the U10s.

And as you said Germany who demolished Brazil even showed constraint after the 5th and they are just about the worst example of humility there is, and unlike the US they were doing it to the tournament favourites. It's piss poor attitude anyone who has played at any serious level would say so.

πŸ˜† it's true. But I'd also say that celebration is embarrassing no matter the scoreline. Rapinoe is an old head as well, but the US have always lacked class.

Yep, that's what I meant. Ridiculous kick celebration for a tap in on the 9th goal of a veteran's career.

They were at it again today. After scoring they all ran to the bench and did very over the top celebrations with the rest of the team. Never seen anything like it before, tbh.

Are they really so out of touch with reality that they don't realise some of the players they have been up against are part-time amateurs? What an obnoxious bunch.

Huh? The high fives to the bench? It's clearly a team spirit thing, kind of annoying in a typically US way, but not much more than that. Think this whole thing has gone way over the top. Celebrating a goal in football is pretty normal.

Not from the World Cup but still

First 25 minutes (all I could watch) of France vs Nigeria was entertaining. Thought both teams came to play and had a clear strategy. Really impressed by one of the Nigerian CMs, she pulled off a great swivel after faking a pass forward that opened up half the pitch for her to drive into.

Good thing you didn't watch the final 15. I'm a big supporter of VAR, but that bullshit made me furious. The use of VAR to award France a penalty was good, but then when France missed VAR spotted that Nigeria's GK had moved like 30 cm off the line a tenth of a second before the penalty was taken so she got a yellow card and France got to retake the penalty. This time they scored. A French player moved inside the area before the penalty was taken, but the VAR refs didn't do shit.

Was well impressed by South Korea. They gave Norway plenty of problems, more than both Nigeria and France did. I've read people say that South Korea's first two games in the world cup were their two worst in a long time, and I can certainly believe that. They had a lot of technical players, just missed that final touch.

Yeah, what's up with that?

Yesterday the americans' second goal came from a corner that shouldn't have been awarded (and VAR did nothing). Then americans got awarded a penalty through VAR for a foul which was clearly outside the box.

There seems to be an enormous lack of accountability with the use of VAR.
