The editor was on TV digging in his heels. He’d adamant the paper has done nothing wrong and wants people to show him the racism. He doesn’t get it. And that’s the same of people who say it will take 10 bananas to stop Lukakau, or those who say that all players get abused in Serie A and for the black players the colour of their skin is what is used against them. All these folks in Serie A fail to put themselves in the position of the other and try to empathize, understand what it’s like to be undermined and threatened because of the color of your skin. That’s what’s happening with the paper and editor when they ‘innocently’ write such a reckless headline.
I always say that the Serie A problems are Italian problems and the editor illustrated this perfectly. And will remain this way until society as a whole needs to confront racism. Attacking it at the level of football with various fifa and UEFA initiatives is useful but nowhere near what is needed to solve it
