Yep. I think Ødegaard was just a two-year loan right? Whereas Isak was a straight sale to Real Sociedad. All the buyback clause does is to force them to accept Dortmund's offer. If the player doesn't want to agree terms there's not much to do about it.
In Isak's case he had a bad experience there. I don't know exactly what was being promised, but I know he picked them ahead of big clubs like Real and Barca because Dortmund were supposed to be better for his development. Instead they did the same thing that a top tier club would have done and stuck him in the reserves, and he only made five first team appearances in three years. Seems like he was a Mislintat signing that no one else really wanted.
He would probably have ended up as the youngest golden boot winner in the history of the Swedish league if he had stayed at AIK - he banged in 10 goals during the first half of the 16/17 season before he had even turned 17 - and I bet he regrets going with the benefit of hindsight.
