No. He's decent, but if we're upgrading I want great.

Don't know what you lot have against him but quite like the guy from the little I've seen of him in an Everton shirt.

He was great for Valencia, remember wishlisting him after that monstrous performance against Real. He looked timid and out of place (not as technically gifted as his team mates) for Barca. He seems to have rediscovered his confidence and is doing very well for Everton. I'd welcome this transfer. You don't judge footballers by their failure to make it at Barca or Real. We've seen the likes of Cambiasso, Anelka, Cesc, Van Bommel, Sneijder, Petit etc fail to make to make it at those clubs but performed very well for other clubs after they've left

We just need different qualities. More dynamic players

He's very dynamic, Ramsey-like

He isn’t fast, agile or quick footed enough. Similar to Ramsey without the goals.

Agree. I didn't see much of him at Valencia but I've seen him a good few times this season and he has impressed me every time.

Techncially very good, good athlete, 6'2", smart and just coming into what should be the best 5 or 6 years of his career.

What's not to like?

Not really interested. Doubt he has another level.

That's how I've felt every time I've seen him as well.

I personally prefer Bernard, great technician.

I have reservations about how smart he is. He doesn't seem like a very good tactical player to me at all. I had a look to see what they're saying about him at the Everton forums, and I found this post from February that describes how I feel about him:

I am now beginning to wonder whether he made such an impression coming into the side because he was the most rounded midfielder we have had since Barry and McCarthy were at their best.

He does always look forward and he wants play the right way. He is very good on the half turn, which is an admirable trait in midfielders, but whilst he is technically good his passing decisions aren't great and his shooting is crap. He is a petulant and rash tackler, he doesn't really compete that much in the air and he is useless at tracking runners for set pieces.

I do think there is a very good player there, especially once he is fully settled but I think the price would definitely have to be right as I think our priority should be for a more dominant midfielder ahead of him.

Maybe he'll go up a level here with better teammates. But I can't help but think that we should go for someone a clear level above Gomes instead of wasting €30 million on him. Sell a few guys to fund a big transfer, get a proper player.

Seen enough of him at everton to feel he's not at the level to make a big difference to us

Same. Also think he’d get overrun a fair bit and can see him as another who’s head would drop the moment things get tough
