Can we rather look at his xG in these games. What is the number and overall quality of chances he’s getting in the games versus big teams?

The reason I say this is I saw some stat this week that showed a spread of about of 8 chances for versus 16 chances against in our big away games. Just based on the way we are pinned back in a lot of these games, we hardly generate chances and they’re not always great chances. For example, we bemoaned Aubameyang missing the first early chance but no xG model will give a high percentage for an unbalanced shot from 20 yards out.

I worry that without context, this is the kind of misinformation that people use to damage our strikers’ reputations unnecessarily

Auba has missed some chances in these 14-15 games but also if you look at our general performance etc. it's not been great and in fact has been poor for the last decade in these games.

It's true, but we really need to be able to depend on him to keep his cool and his self belief in those rare chances that do fall onto his lap.

He was feeding on scraps though. What chances did he have other than when Adrian made a mess of his clearance? The lack of service to him in the big away games is a bigger concern than PEA's record in those games, and is a damning indictment on a manager who swears by a supposed 'attacking' mindset.

Yep, the bigger issue is our general play and near-total inability to impose ourselves away from home against the big boys.

Been that way for years and years and I'm still scratching my head over it.

You cant just discount a chance like that though. No guarantees obviously but Liverpool had no chances in the first half, we score that and they get frantic and make more mistakes the more time passes, opening up more chances for us

I'm not blaming the loss entirely on him, but games against top opposition punish you for chances you give up and those you don't take. We have a poor record against top six opposition away from home for ages because of individual fuckups most of the time, Mustafi giving away penalties, Auba missing them, Koscielny getting sent off etc

How much frantic though? You got any stats to back it up? Like xF or then goals per frantic percent xFG ?
If not, you aren't never allowed to point out anything obvious. ...it'll mean the said player is a total liability in the history of the club.

They weren't, but you would still expect Auba to score them, if he's supposed to an elite striker.

I meant the lob yeah. Takes ages to come down and then he has to get it over both the keeper and the defender which only leaves the space at the far post to aim for. It's not as easy as it looks.

The one where he was so slow to shoot would have been flagged for offside by VAR either way and I think he knew it. Seemed genuinely surprised that the linesman didn't call it right away.

That chance wasn't easy yes, he made it harder for himself by controlling it with his chest instead of taking it down. I'd forgive someone like Nketiah or a midfielder for missing it but not our 60m top striker who's in great form.
