Selling Iwobi was balancing the books a little I think. We probably didn't really want to do it.

First of all, Emery didn't sell Iwobi, Arsenal did. Secondly, selling Iwobi might he sad, but it makes perfect sense. He's a decent player, we need better, and we got better. Time to move on. The reason it's boring to talk about is because some are using it in bad faith to bash the manager.

Did we get better for the left wing? We're basically asking Nelson to take it up, otherwise we have Auba there. Not that I have a problem with that at all. Heck when he came on Pepe went central with Auba moving wide right so often.

and that's why his official title is head coach. he doesn't make those kind of decisions. bash him for the way the team plays or whatever. but personnel decisions are the responsibility of his bosses.

Going to make an Iwobi thread on the football forum so we can stick to one thread on him without it spilling over on here. 😆 That's the kick that cost us CL football is it, and not the countless balls that bounced off Laca's ankles because he couldn't control them?

People are discussing Laca because he didn't play well against Burnley, and we did not attack well as a team with him up front.

I'm not saying people shouldn't discuss Lacas performance, I only watched the highlights and am in no position to judge anyway. I'm only saying that Laca definitely isn't universally loved as you say, especially not compared to Auba.

I'm not saying Auba is at fault for us not playing in the CL now, that was definitely a team effort. But yeah if you had to pick one instance out it would be that one, a last minute piss poor penalty miss that cost us two points and gifted Spurs one.

And that's completely fine. I get why people like him and his sluggish style. I hope folks don’t start pitting them against each other, hated it when we saw that with Santi and Mesut or Ramsey and Santi.

They’re both Arsenal players who contribute a lot. As Klaus points out Laca did win PotY ahead of top scorer Auba, whether that’s justified or not it should tell you about his contribution last season. A bad game at the start of the season doesn’t change that, and neither does Auba being forced wide.

The reason most people are discussing Laca being dropped is Auba, seemingly, wasted on the wings to accommodate an inferior striker.
Also distilling our failure to qualify for the CL to one instance is ridiculous as the league table counts points won/dropped the same wherever and whenever so a penalty miss counts the same as a goalkeeping error, mustafi error, xhaka gift, niles og, etc.

Goon's right. Seems a bit poisonous to make it an either-or when they're pretty efficient together, and also good friends off the pitch.

I'm glad we've got these guys. We've got six points this season, with some of the strikers we've had in years gone by I can imagine us having two points or none, all else being equal.

Serious question, do people think Auba would have enjoyed playing up top yesterday? Starved of the ball and starved of good service against a deep, physical defence? He scores goals off the wing and gets more space while Laca can occupy the centre backs. Some games it will suit Auba up top. We have options, all of which involve Auba scoring goals. I don’t see the problem.

Auba failed to show up in the big games, he deserved criticism. Also, his lack of effort in some games was very disappointing. Laca always showed up, that was the difference and scored in the big games hence why I feel he’s not as appreciated as his strike partner.

Anyway since Leicester away last season Auba has looked like a different player and I’m glad to see he’s in this form and long may it continue.

I'm not crying murder I'm strongly disagreeing with your point. I dont know about what happens elsewhere, I know what I'm reading here however and what I'm reading is loads of people not just four in a row calling for Lacazette to be sold, despite winning player of the season. Auba is seen as our star striker for the next couple of years despite having turned 30 in June while the "sluggish" bloke who's won the team the most points last season is regularly swapped for Crystal Palace or Hoffenheim wingers in most wishlists.

For what its worth I agree that it's ridiculous to make it seem like it's one or the other. On the other hand it's only natural that people who defending Laca against some of the worst over the top criticism will make that jump. Reading some of the assessments here you'd be forgiven for thinking we're discussing Henry vs Jeffers in here.

Anyway I'm happy we have both. Both had strong and weaker patches last season, being able to rotate them at times will give us a major boost hopefully, as will the chance of one dragging the other through a rough patch.

No because Zaha is highly rated because of his consistent ability to beat a defender and create space. Not his goals which aren't that impressive, so if you want to compare Iwobi to Zaha we should be comparing what makes Zaha valuable, which is his dribbling.
