  • Monchi rumoured to be appointed Arsenal sporting director

Tbh I can kind of respect that. Yeah, it's unambitious from a narrowly defined set of parameters but it's better than selling yourself out and doing a crap job that you're not really interested in. It's not like he's a 25 year old footballer with a 10 year playing career, he's a 50 year old man - I imagine most of us have or will be faced with similar choices at some point.

We needed Monchi to be honest. Very disappointing if true.

Hopefully we can land Overmars

Bullet dodged, clearly another Jose Antonio Reyes.

What’s the deal with Overmars? Is he another stat man like Monchi and Sven?

If he shows loyalty to the club he loves, how can we as football fans slate him for that. We don't see enough of that in the game. Arsenal probably offered him a lot more but if he chooses to be near his kids/grandkids? I'd just respect him even more as a person.

Just read a report that Overmars is more involved with the business side of the role as opposed to finding the players, meaning we will still need to appoint a head of scouting at the very least.

Any ideas as to how much our scouting set up has been changed / improved?  Reports are that Mislintat was pretty much a lone wolf in finding the talent so my concern is that we still have much the same issues in our scouting as seen under the previous management.

Sven is still unemployed. Let's try to make it work again. He got us Leno, Sokratis, Auba, Torreira and Guendouzi. He's quality.

So Monchi returns to Sevila. I say this is a dogged bullet, clearly he has gone back as it’s his comfort zone. Do we need someone who is scared of going outside what he is familar with?

We need a plan B ASAP though as we need to sort out players coming/going for summer sooner than later.

Wonder if we could go try and get Rangnick. He was linked as one of the possible managerial candidates to replace Wenger if I remember correctly. He's certainly someone who has built a system, which is what we could use. No to Overmars please.

I'm actually wondering what we did here. If Sanllehi sees himself more as the businessman, isn't there a way we could have given Sven complete control over sporting matters? Just have Sanllehi have an approving vote with on transfers (or even just a limited set of transfers (e.g, those over 20m pounds). I am wondering if we are in danger of having too heavy a management. We neeed to stay as lean as possible at the top.

Basically we dragged too long and Sevilla swooped in

Club thought he's joking? What is this? Friday Night at the Apollo?

Would rather Overmars or someone with a connection to the club.

I really hope this isn't true. I dont mind if he decided against us because of his hometown club but if it's because we offered a low salary to someone who probably isn't on the biggest salary in the first place it really means nothing has changed at this club

It's depressing how often this happens. And I agree, Monchi's salary is hardly going to be make or break for the club compared to what a footballer would ask for.

The "thought he was joking" part really makes me doubt everything in that tweet.

The tweet itself says we agreed on a salary, so not sure where the impression that this was the deciding factor has come from. It also says that he wanted to go back to Sevilla.

If we offered a serious salary he probably would have signed before Sevilla's manager was sacked which in turn necessitated them re-signing Monchi

Monchi signing a contract wouldn’t rule him out joining Sevilla.

Anyway let’s close this thread.

The guy is reliable for Sevilla news it seems and the fact is Monchi today claimed he picked the best sporting project that is offered to him, basically hinting our package and conditions to work in is not as favourable.

Signing a contract with us obviously means hed be breaking that contract if he then decides to go to Sevilla. It happens but usually people don't do it because it's a bad look, also he might not even want to move there if he fully commits to Arsenal.
