The restriction seems so rigid that I'm starting to think it's an accounting/FFP issue rather than a financing or budgetary issue. Would make sense as to why we're reluctant to take an obligation to buy as in the eyes of the authorities, that's essentially a permanent transfer (hence why PSG had to add a relegation clause onto the Mbappe deal).
Hmm - what you're saying that if we have an obligation to buy a player for 25m on a 5 year contract, UEFA will want recognise some 3-4m of the transfer fee this year already, so we would just like to push it out to next year. If we are running on those kinds of margins, then we are in real trouble.
A cash-flow issue, on the other hand, would say that we are waiting to align the first payout of the 25m (say 10m) this June when Adidas starts paying us for its kit deal. I suspect this is more it. We would rather align those cashflows than pay the interest on a short term financing.
