Agreed. I was happy to give them both time under Emery to see if he could tease out what Wenger couldn't. I don't see that Mustafi has done anything to justify that faith, whereas Xhaka, for his continuing faults, can clearly bring something to the table.
I'm not convinced Mustafi is quite as hopeless as he appears at times, I just think first and foremost he is plainly unsuited to a team as open and undisciplined as Arsenal. Getting rid of him, and bringing someone in the mid 20s in would be the ideal scenario. Someone to act as a bridge between Kos and Sokratis who can provide experience for the next year or so, and the likes of Holding/Chambers/Mavropanos who have to develop in the coming seasons.
