This group of players is pathetic. It was pathetic under Wenger and they will remain pathetic under any other manager. I cannot understand that more people don't see that. It was right for Arsene to go because he assembled this squad, but it makes zero sense to replace the coach and expect the quality of the team to change.
Let's rebuild a proper squad first, then worry about managers if they are failing to get results with them.
I don't understand how this 'group' comes about-
Let's look at the squad
Leno, Torreira, Sokratis, Guendouzi all played a lot and were never under Wenger.
Lichsteiner was also not there under him but didn't play much
Auba and Mkhi played 6 months under Wenger and Lacazette plus Kolanisac had about a year.
If the main squad is about 20 members that's about 9 members that can't really be part of this 'group' or about half the squad.
Seems like excuses made in behalf of senor emery.
You have to go back in time a long time before you find a decent squad. The 2014 squad was decent and the addition of Alexis helped us to a couple more cups. Last time we had over 75 points in the league was back then, too.
Do you not remember how year after year, with few exceptions, we downgraded our squad over what we had before? The current squad is nothing but the culmination of a process of gradual decay in player quality, that can be traced back not just last season but many before it.
Mkhi and Auba were not an improvement, they were mediocre replacements for Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla, which simply kept us more or less where we were.
The fact that you seem to have expected a 19-year old Guendouzi and 22-year old Torreira to make a difference to our midfield says it all.
Sokratis in practice replaced Koscielny, so no upgrade there either.
I have no complaints about Leno.
It's beyond me that you would think a team that still has to rely on Mustafi, Xhaka (and Cech, today), with an ageing Monreal, misfiring Kolasinac, juvenile AMN, etc. would be worthy of more than we got.
The only bit that has arguably been an upgrade at all in the past few years is the strikeforce, and they performed adquately as you would expect them to.
Give Emery players of that quality throughout the rest of the team and then you could complain about underachieving.
