Personally, I think the improvements for those players was either negligible or short-lived. Not enough for me to think they have gone up a level.

Agreed, although I'd suggest that Arteta is now the favoured son to take over at MC post Guardiola, whereas previously it looked as PV may have been the chosen one.

Just read a story in The Mirror with quotes from Emery that some players were not interested in playing in The Europa and only wanted to play in the PL games.
IMO they're obviously being paid too much and should be shipped out.

I mean I agree with you in spirit Anzac but equally it'd be nice if we'd all admit, finally, after way over a decade of talking about it amongst ourselves that the nature of football contracts means misfits can't be readily "shipped out" … there are a range of high risk tactics a club can use to try to dislodge them and that's it.

Let's keep the quality up and confine ourselves to demands that are deliverable within the actually existing legal and financial context of the club.

Most consider we have the weakest squad not only in terms of quality but also balance - as such if the cap fits....

It's a big part of the reason as to why so many former players speak so highly of him = he constantly put the player's welfare ahead of the team / club.

No offence I've just gotten wise and no longer want to lean into arguments about whether we need to "ship out" players who don't want to leave (let's say Özil for argument's sake), even though it's not happening.

Now this argument about what to argue about, that I am totally down for …

You can put pressure on players to leave though and that needs to be part of our MO going forward for problematic squad members. As Anzac says Wenger fostered a player first culture but I think the games moved on from that working. Players earn so much money now that it doesn't make sense to treat them like fragile kids.
